Story
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

Sarah Polley’s work as an actor, screenwriter, and director is celebrated for its honesty, complexity, and deep humanity. She brings all of those qualities along with her exquisite storytelling chops to these six essays. Each one captures a piece of Polley’s life as she remembers it, while at the same time examining the fallibility of memory, the mutability of reality in the mind, and the possibility of experiencing the past anew, as the person you are now but were not then. As Polley writes, the past and present are in a “reciprocal pressure dance.”

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Publisher's Summary
A New York Times bestseller
A candid, compulsively readable, hilarious, and heartbreaking memoir of resilience and redemption by comedic genius Molly Shannon
At age four, Molly Shannon’s world was shattered when she lost her mother, baby sister, and cousin in a car accident with her father at the wheel. Held together by her tender and complicated relationship with her grieving father, Molly was raised in a permissive household where her gift for improvising and role-playing blossomed alongside the fearlessness that would lead her to become a celebrated actress.
From there, Molly ventured into the wider world of New York and Los Angeles show business, where she created her own opportunities and developed her daring and empathetic comedy. Filled with behind-the-scenes stories involving everyone from Whitney Houston to Adam Sandler to Monica Lewinsky, many told for the first time here, Hello, Molly! spans Molly’s time on Saturday Night Live—where she starred alongside Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Cheri Oteri, Tracy Morgan, and Jimmy Fallon, among many others. At the same time, it explores with humor and candor her struggle to come to terms with the legacy of her father, a man who both fostered her gifts and drive and was left with the impossible task of raising his kids alone after the loss of her mother.
Witty, winning, and told with tremendous energy and heart, Hello, Molly!, written with Sean Wilsey, sheds new and revelatory light on the life and work of one of our most talented and free-spirited performers.

Riveting and Heart Warming!
I definitely struggled with trying to follow events from Molly's childhood and adolescence, it was scattered and I didn't know what age she was as it kept going back and forth and not in chronological order. That being said, as her story continued into her show biz experiences and relationship with her father, it just didn't matter. I love, love this book and this woman! I listened to the whole book in one day while I worked. Her story is tragic, touching, funny, inspiring, unintentionally self-help and oh so authentic!!
I will listen again and again. Molly does a beautiful job on the narrative, it's such an enjoyable listen.
I highly recommend!!!

What a Life.
I heard her on podcasts talking about the book, so I knew what I was getting into, but such tragedy. I can't imagine all the guilt and loss and blame that must have been present in that family. The best actors and comedians seem to be born from their losses and Molly is just such an example. I am glad she was able to share her good times with her dad and her audience.

Unfortunately stilted storytelling
I love Molly Shannon but this book is does not show her in her best light. It’s unfortunately stilted, and non-literary, with repeated ideas and unfinished thoughts. I found the writing style did nothing to help with the storytelling. There was no connection between thoughts and ideas, and it didn’t even appear to have an ending.

Molly is a superstar!!!
Very hard to express my feelings about this book. Heartbreak to sheer, unadulterated joy! Your story is inspiring Molly as I too lost my mother very early at age 3. Struggles ensued but like you, I have a profound appreciation for the life I’ve had and the blessings of family and friends to help fill the void. Although such a void is never completely filled you forged a way through to make such a beautiful life. Bravo and thank you so much for narrating this audio version. It was absolutely wonderful and I will always remember it❣️

A book about Molly and her Father
I'm not a fan of silly comedy, so maybe I shouldn't have purchased this book. I prefer dry, clever wit to all-out chaos and spasmodic comedy. This is the latter. I think this was a personal tribute to Molly's father; I would have preferred more stories about the author's personal struggles, friends, husband, kids, etc. The most interesting part was learning about SNL.

Great Story, Over Performed
I really did enjoy the content of this book, but it was just way too theatrical in its narration. I like vocal inflection and emotion in narration but Molly was just way over the top. I kept thinking she was building up to something huge, but no, she was just describing how great it was when her dad demeaned cashiers and tried to swindle people. I was hoping at some point she or her father had realized how nasty he was in his young days as her father, but she described it gleefully. Kind of strange not to at least mention that she realizes now what he did was wrong. Instead, she celebrated it.

You Really Feel Like You Met Molly
This autobiography is a whirlwind of authenticity and vulnerability. I enjoyed EVERY word. Molly showed herself and let the reader/listener into her upbringing. I feel honored to have experienced her expression of self and I know her family is proud. It was a lot of story and I can only imagine the grief, love, anger, and joy it took to share with us. Molly has to be one of the most grateful people about whom I have ever read. This book has huge heartfelt surprises and was written with care.

Love Molly even more!
I loved hearing Molly’s stories of how she developed her characters. The death of her mom, sister & cousin had such a profound influence on her. It made me sad that it took so long for her & her dad to talk about it - that’s the Irish Catholic way!!! Molly is a strong woman & I love how she made it her own way. Her behind the scenes SNL tales were great.
