Story
The human was an expert sniper-and a psychopath. He had never failed in the past when he stalked human prey. But now he is on an enemy planet, and his prey is anything but human. The Darhel are a race with a highly developed empathic sense. Long ago, they learned that they cannot deal death to another intelligent being without being destroyed by the death agonies of their victim.

Story
The invaders are coming; the Posleen, a seemingly unstoppable horde who have conquered one star system after another, literally feeding on their conquests. Earth's dubious allies, the Darhel, have given the humans a number of highly-advanced technological devices, including a process for rejuvenating the aged, including trained and proven soldiers who otherwise would be too old to fight. Rejuvenation may give a critical edge, since to survive, the Earth must use every resource at hand.

The Posleen are coming and the models all say the same thing: Without the Panama Canal, the US is doomed to starvation and defeat. Despite being overstretched preparing to defend the US, the military sends everything it has left: A handful of advanced Armored Combat Suits, rejuvenated veterans from the many decades that Panama was a virtual colony and three antiquated warships. Other than that, the Panamanians are on their own.

Publisher's Summary
With the defenses of the Southern Appalachians sundered, the only thing standing between the ravening Posleen hordes and the soft interior of the Cumberland Plateau are the veterans of 555th Mobile Infantry. Dropped into Rabun Pass, with a couple of million Posleen behind them and 14 million to the front, the only question is which will run out first: power, bullets, or bodies.
But they have a hole card: far to the north the shattered SheVa Nine is undergoing a facelift. Rising from its smoking ashes is a new weapon of war, armed with the most advanced weaponry Terra has ever produced, capable of facing both the Posleen hordes and their redoubtable space-cruisers. Capable of dealing out hell as only SheVa Nine can.
If Mike O'Neal and the other members of the 555th are going to survive, it will come down to how much Posleen butt Bun-bun can kick. Prepare to eat antimatter, Posleen-boy.

One word... Awesome
If you could sum up Hell's Faire in three words, what would they be?
absolutely awesome book
Who was your favorite character and why?
There are a number to choose from... but I would have to say my favorite would be Bun-Bun the Shiva tank...
What does Marc Vietor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
the voices and emotion that Marc brought to the story, along with helpfuly correct names for the Posleen and aliens... wouldn't have had any clue how to say those myself
Any additional comments?
This is Military SciFi at it's best... I started reading these when I was getting ready to deploy to Iraq, and these books caught the oldest of military games, and terminology and attitude... just seemed to capture a small slice of what the Military is about

UT Redneck Review
I have enjoyed this book the best of the Aldenata series so far due mainly to its setting. Living close by to the "events'" locations, it was very interesting the way the locations were used. Marc Vietor does an excellent job bringing the story alive! Of course, Marc could not accomplish his craft quite so well without an excellent story from John Ringo! And turning Georgia orange was very cool indeed!

What a great story!
The Aldenata series is one of those "best-of things"... it defined the genre of Military Sci-Fi, and stands today as some of the most awesome storytelling you will ever lay hands on. The only way you can not enjoy this series is if you either hate sci fi (so why are you here?) or if you have no military experience (in which case you may struggle with Mr. Ringo's spot-on depiction of the military mind). Mr. Ringo is former military, and he writes from experience. If you ever wore a uniform, you will read this, and say, "Ya, that is pretty much how it would all go down."
On the flip side, I never did like the story's ending (this book). It's one of those, 8:59 and we have to wrap it up and roll credits sorts of endings. Further, the follow-on books are all over the place in terms of quality. It is a unfair way to end such an epic series.
Was it just me, or did the human's weaponry suddenly get MUCH more powerful in the last chapters. Early in the story, Poslin baddies are running around with terra-watt LASERS and shooting up the country side with em, and humans are coping. In the final chapters, an ACS trooper gets one LASER and totally raises a ruckus with it.
In the end though, its a great story with fantastic narration. Can I have an ACS combat suit for Christmas please??!!

I WANT MORE BUN BUN!!!
Awsome military sci-fi. This time tank combat is employed in mind blowing fashion, including a mountain-sized nuclear powered tank named "Bun Bun" with a giant cartoon rabbit painted on it. Hard core military action from a hard core military writer. Some of the language is a bit jargony if you aren't an ex-jar head or retired ground pounder... But it's the jargon that sets the mood. Narration is on the money. Perfect.

Last book, but its not over! 8 more to go
Well this is the last book in the series of 4 but its not really over, there are 8 more books in this series.
The best order to proceed after this book is to go with Watch on the Rhine, then Yellow Eyes, then on to Cally's War and Sister Time and Honor of the Clan then The Tuloriad and Eye of the Storm and lastly The Hero.
I liked how this series turned out, I was apprehensive about it because I didnt like how since it was before Sept 11th many things were strange in regard to the military and preparedness for war but after that it was put into high gear, so there were some things that were strange to here in this book.
The other problem and its with all of Ringos books I have read and thats almost all of them on this site and that is that there are these side stories that seem to be going somewhere and just never do, but its ok because in the end the story isnt really lacking those unfinished side stories but it would be cool to see what happened.
Near the end you are setup for the next 8 books (see above for proper reading order) but mostly Cally's War and Watch on the Rhine in the very end - Cally's War, its strange because since you know there is a book titled that and it takes place when she is older you know she doesent die in this book even though she is put in danger a few times so you are waiting to see how things play out and its pretty good.
Then there is Watch on the Rhine and Yellow Eyes which should be read before Cally's War and you are setup for that in the last few minutes of this book so its pretty good and after you read these and the next 8, lol, go on to The Looking Glass series and then the Troy Rising because they are alone this path and are just great as well

Ringo is great....
In this whole series also......John Ringo is without a doubt, in my mind, one of the best science fiction writers currently plying the trade. I don't know if he grew up reading the masters (heinlien, clarke, asimov....) but I am hearing their echos in his writing. An absolute joy to listen to........... Science Fiction like it needs to be.......(again).

The only negative is slight mispronunciations that anyone who didn’t grow up in western North Carolina won’t notice. Otherwise well written on John’s part, and very well performed on Marc’s.

GIANT TANK KILLS ALIENS
This is a great book. Iron man suits and a giant tank vs aliens from another solar system.
