For a first timer, not bad

I kept finding it strange that the protagonist was so willing to move on and find happiness so soon, so I kept wondering if she did it. A few basic notes: I find it hard to believe that her parents only keep flashlights in the house and none in the barn. Also, do not go out in a lightening storm with your umbrella up as her father did, as umbrellas are conductors and lightening will take the easiest path.
