Publisher's Summary

He'll mark her flesh. She'll claim his heart.

Always the dutiful daughter, Lady Joselyn is weeks away from marrying a rival lord in order to save her house. However, she suddenly finds herself in the clutches of an ancient beast she’s only ever heard of in legends. More terrifying than that is the beast’s master, a wild man who insists Joselyn is his bride by right, and plans to seal his claim in blood.

Dragon-rider Hollen has finally captured the woman of his dreams, though he quickly learns waiting for her was less than half the battle. His new bride wants nothing to do with him, and Hollen knows he only has one chance to change her mind.

Their wills pitted against each other, Joselyn will go to any lengths to free herself from this savage and fulfill her marriage contract. Her father’s life depends upon it. To win her over, Hollen will do whatever he must, even if it means keeping secrets. Even as she plots her escape, Joselyn begins to wonder if one can also be bound by a duty to their own heart.

Includes "Sven the Collector", a bonus story from The Dokiri Brides series.

Epic world building and a fierce love story!!

First of all, this amazing story is narrated by SHANE EAST which just kicks it up 5 notches or so. If you haven’t listened to audiobooks by Shane before and you’re a romance fan, you’ve been missing out! He does an amazing job narrating Hollen and Jocelyn’s story.

Hollen is a dragon rider who abducts Jocelyn on her way to an arranged marriage which could save her house from her father’s mistakes. They’re both strong leaders with fierce personalities - I loved watching them get to know each other and Hollen showing Jocelyn what true support, love, and loyalty look like. Read the trigger warnings carefully - this book won’t be for everyone. It’s also very light on the physical aspects of romance. BUT you will get amazing world building, intriguing characters, and the first romance plot to throw some surprises my way in a good long while!

After finishing I finished this book, I read the other 4 in 4 days...so ya I’m nuts...but the books are THAT good. What are you waiting for???

Hollen the Soulless (Dokiri Brides, Book 1)

I loved this book. The story was awesome and the narrator was incredible.
It has been awhile since I found a book that kept me guessing. With so many of the books I listen to lately it seems like I can always figure out where the story line is going and kinda how the story will end. I think it is because of reading books for over 40 yrs.:)
I enjoyed this book so much I wanted to take the time to listen to the whole book that night, then I saw it was 20 hours long so it took me 3 nights instead.
I quickly pre-booked the second book.

Nice change of story

I enjoyed this as a romance book. Though I was very disappointed that there was no descriptive scenes. It was nice to see both perpectives and the performance was excellent. I would recommend this book if you want a nice and easy romance book.

Excellent story and performance

If you like a slow burn romance this is for you. This is definitely a more classic Romance with a fantasy twist, there is no smut.

The story is deep and well developed, it charges forwards- keeping you well entertained. The side characters are delightful and really add to the overall story. Even the villains are wonderful.

The performance is excellent, smooth and easy to listen to. The reader does a great job delivering on both genders and portraying different characters.

3.7 Stars. Why? Because I don't like blue b@lls

The slow burn sexual tension building was glorious and these men are insanely hot and honorable and respectful of women and just... just not how "barbarian" or "savage" men are typically written in this genre and I personally found it a breath of fresh air. Quite a bit unrealistic? Omg yes! It's basically a mountain-top utopia where virile men with 8-pack abs worship their wives like rare and precious treasure and THAT'S THE NORM. However, one must rememebr it IS a fantasy/romance novel so one should be expected to suspend their disbelief if they are to enjoy the story.

That being said..... Ever seen a black and white movie from the 50s where the man and woman embrace and passionately kiss, then the music cues and the camera fades to black and that's the whole entire sex scene? Well, that's pretty much how the ONE AND ONLY sex scene goes is in this novel after over 10 hours of piping hot buildup and character development and sexual tension until the reader is about ready to EXPLODE and then the reward for our anticipation and patience is a PG old-timey "sex scene" that fades to black after a tiny bit of over-the-sweater stuff??
IF it was billed as a Christian or Mormon romance novel then at least I'd have known what I was gettint myself into. But it wasn't. So I'm sorry, but this I simply cannot forgive. I came for Fantasy Romance and I got tons of fantasy and not nearly enough romance. I still enjoyed most of the novel but I finished it feeling cheated, deceived even.

Narration was excellent, the story and writing style were on point. I thoroughly enjoyed the authors world building in spite of learning about said world thru the female leads eyes and never managing to quite warm up to her (I liked the supporting female characters way better).

I just wish the series was billed as Fantasy instead of Fantasy, Romance: I'm a woman and I never thought I'd say this, but nobody appreciates a c@ck tease...
