Story
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Peaceful suburbia on Poplar Street in Wentworth, Ohio, takes a turn for the ugly when four vans containing armed "regulators" terrorize the street's residents, cold-bloodedly killing anyone foolish enough to step outside their homes. Masterminding this sudden onslaught is the evil creature Tak, who has taken over the body of an autistic eight-year-old boy, Seth Garin.

A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Written by: Stephen King
Publisher's Summary
Holly Gibney, one of Stephen King’s most compelling and ingeniously resourceful characters, returns in this thrilling novel to solve the gruesome truth behind multiple disappearances in a midwestern town.
“Sometimes the universe throws you a rope.” —BILL HODGES
Stephen King’s Holly marks the triumphant return of beloved King character Holly Gibney. Audiences have witnessed Holly’s gradual transformation from a shy (but also brave and ethical) recluse in Mr. Mercedes to Bill Hodges’s partner in Finders Keepers to a full-fledged, smart, and occasionally tough private detective in The Outsider. In King’s new novel, Holly is on her own, and up against a pair of unimaginably depraved and brilliantly disguised adversaries.
When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner, Pete, has Covid. Her (very complicated) mother has just died. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny Dahl’s desperate voice makes it impossible for Holly to turn her down.
Mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. They are the picture of bourgeois respectability: married octogenarians, devoted to each other, and semi-retired lifelong academics. But they are harboring an unholy secret in the basement of their well-kept, book-lined home, one that may be related to Bonnie’s disappearance. And it will prove nearly impossible to discover what they are up to: they are savvy, they are patient, and they are ruthless.
Holly must summon all her formidable talents to outthink and outmaneuver the shockingly twisted professors in this chilling new masterwork from Stephen King.
“I could never let Holly Gibney go. She was supposed to be a walk-on character in Mr. Mercedes and she just kind of stole the book and stole my heart. Holly is all her.” —STEPHEN KING

Lovely
The story is great as far as Holly Gibney storyline goes; however the narrator was so different from Will Patton's, who narrated all the other books/novella's in the series, it almost put me off in the first hour or so. But then her voice grew on me a bit and I was able to enjoy the book. Still took off a star as I was hoping for Will Patton's narration.
For any reasonable readers/listeners, the COVID references are there as the timeline was during that time and we know Holly is an OCD (she takes stuff too seriously sometimes).
For those that are hating on the few paragraphs of COVID and vaccine references (and returned the book because of them): if you didn't think you were far right extremist - you've thought wrong.

Deliciously Dark
Really enjoyed this one!
Not sure about all the negative reviews regarding anti-vaxers and anti-trump.
The books’ characters have political opinions left and right just as everyone does these days.
And the book takes place during the COVID era. Holly’s introverted anti-social character coupled with her overbearing mothers personality makes perfect sense in her outlook on the matter.
But while I found these opinions and ideologies well supporting the characters, they were tertiary to the main themes and darkness of the book.
Brilliant suspense, wonderful action, sharp dialogue and great story telling which left me craving more.

Today's featured presentation is brought to you by Pfizer. Oh my God, I just wanted to enjoy the Holly book. She is my favorite King character. The narrator made it hard to follow once a while, if you didn't pay attention. Since there was not much difference between the characters. Felt like a short story to bring you a " hidden" message. Mr King made clear where his preferences are. And I gladly return this book.

Investigations in the time of Covid
Holly is the latest mesmerizing audiobook from Stephen King. It is a terrific psychological thriller with a touch of mystery thrown in for good measure.
Mr. King delivers another masterful story featuring Holly Gibney, one of his most compelling and ingeniously resourceful characters.
Holly returns in this thrilling novel to unravel the gruesome truth behind multiple disappearances in a midwestern town. She is a private investigator who has a knack for finding clues and solving puzzles, but also struggles with her own fears and insecurities. She is determined to uncover the dark secrets that lurk behind the seemingly peaceful facade of the town and not even the corona pandemic will be able to stop her from achieving this objective.
The writing is brilliant, the characters feel alive, and the plot is full of mystery and suspense.
The narration by renowned American actor Justine Lupe is absolutely flawless! She manages to perfectly channel Holly just like she did in the Mr. Mercedes series, where Holly first appeared as a supporting character. You may also know Justine from her appearance in TV shows such as Succession and many others.
Her performance is on point, emotional, energetic and entertaining. She brings Holly to life with ease, capturing her personality, quirks, and emotions.
Every time a new Stephen King audiobook is released, I drop everything and immerse myself into these mesmerizing tales. Holly is a must-listen for any fan of Stephen King or anyone who loves a good thriller.
With Holly Mr. King rewards, delights and entertains his constant readers endlessly.

Horribly disappointed
I’ve come to expect that anything King writes I already know I will appreciate it and enjoy the story. So very very excited about a book dedicated to Holly.
First things first - it’s not Holly’s “voice” we have come to know in her past storylines. I gave it a listen and I have finally removed it to my archives.
Just can’t get into the story at all. I am progressive, unapologetically so. What I did manage to listen too is even I got tired of the political rhetoric.
I seriously would like to return this for my credit.

For everyone who's crying about the liberal stuff, please stop and read the author's note. King is totally aware that some of you don't like liberal politics and called you out for being right-wing crybabies before the book was even released. LoL

Fun!
I love this book. Smart, fun, exciting, interesting, scary. I like that Stephen King felt brave enough to share his political opinions knowing that he would probably lose a few fans.

Not good.
Needed Will Patton. No escape from the constant COVID, Trump, vaccine, mask narrative. Thank you Mr. King for many wonderful novels. This was not one of them.

Heavy Political Leaning
I never review books, so this is the last thing I wanted to do. I listen to King because he’s so great at talking you out of the real world but this book has been his feelings about Covid, police and the past president in a character I used to love. I get putting a smidge of his political leanings sometimes but this was a tear down of all of the people who didn’t get vaccinated or voted for Trump. The disappointment with the narrator was annoying, when the same one can’t be used for a main character it lags. I was willing to go with it but the guilt pushing for non vaccinated people I can’t. Just write a story not an option piece on politics. If that’s what you want to do then put it in the description so those of us that don’t want to blow our money on it!

#justiceforwillpatton
First, no disrespect to Justine Lupe but she's no will Patton. And holly books have ALWAYS been Will Patton. Very preachy book from word one. We get it King, you don't like Trump! We get it, you're 100% pro vaccine for Covid. I definitely miss his older books and even most of his middle books. The new ones are tiresome from the gate. I will continue on for I am that fabled constant reader, but I don't have to like it. Please reissue in the future with narrator Will Patton. I will purchase and try listening again. Thank you for your time. SK has forgotten the face of his father.

Good book-
If you can get past the lefty preaching. It’s unfortunate because the previous books didn’t have much if any but this one quite a bit.
