A must listen for cinephiles

I really enjoyed this audio book which conveyed so much information. I picked up the printed copy and thought it to be a reference book that would be difficult to read as such. However, when listening to the audio book, I was able to concentrate on its insight and information reaching right back to the silent era. Fabulous research and editing on this project!

It makes sense to listen to an oral history on movies

The book offers a fantastic insight into the early days of Hollywood. I'm generally a binge listener and can swallow a book in a weekend, but this one? Oh man. I had to take it in parts, over a couple of weeks. The story, while fascinating and insightful, does need some patience. The actors' performance reading recollections of historical figures is indeed outstanding.
To some extent, the whole book has a theme of an old radio show. A great position to listen to while you're going for a long walk. It really transports you back to the old days of glamour and the Studio System that ran Hollywood. My favourite part is about Marilyn Monroe, but it's well into the narration, so you have to wait a bit.

It is long, really long. like "War and Peace" long
