Publisher's Summary

An art expert and a thief get caught in a dangerous game in this novel of daring deception and desire from #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts.

After an assault at her family home in Maine, Dr. Miranda Jones is determined to put the experience behind her. Distraction comes when she is summoned to Italy - to verify the authenticity of a Renaissance bronze of a Medici courtesan known as The Dark Lady.

But instead of cementing Miranda’s reputation as the leading expert in the field, the job nearly destroys it when her professional judgment is called into question. Emotionally estranged from her mother, with a brother immersed in his own troubles, Miranda has no one to turn to...except Ryan Boldari, a seductive art thief whose own agenda forces them into a reluctant alliance.

Now it becomes clear that the incident in Maine was not a simple mugging - and that The Dark Lady may possess as many secrets as its beautiful namesake once did. For Miranda, forced to rely on herself - and a partner who offers her both unnerving suspicion and intoxicating passion - the only way home is filled with deception, treachery, and a danger that threatens them all.

Found the female character annoying

I found the main character Dr. Miranda Jones pompous and annoying. i would have stopped listening if it hadn't been for male character Ryan. So glad it was finally over.

A fun thrilling mystery with some art and sex.

A strong principled but introverted heroine finds herself forced to work with a dashing, rambunctious thief in order to unravel the mysterious art thefts and forgeries surrounding her.
In my opinion this is one of Roberts's best novels: no supernatural stuff, nothing too gory or dark, and what it does contain is wonderful: two very different characters who challenge one another, fabulous works of art, many mysterious crimes and lots of beautiful locals. It's romantic, very sexy and funny. I might just listern to it all over again! The narrator did a pretty good job, too.

Painful narrator...I need aspirin!

Audible needs to figure out a way for the sample to really be a sample. It would be nice to be able to get a true sense of the narrator’s style. I bet they wouldn’t have as many returns if they did this. The narrator in this book completely ruined it for me. (I know it’s a good book...I’ve read it!). Her breathy, whispery, overly dramatic reading had me rolling my eyes and mimicking her as I drove.THAT’S the most entertainment I got from the book. Never, NEVER again will I choose a book read by Ericka Leigh. If I were the author, I’d be sorely annoyed at her butchery of a perfectly good book!

To Love a Theif

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how the relationship between Ryan and Miranda happened.

Have you listened to any of Erika Leigh’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to her performances before but she did well. I liked how she was able to go from Italian to Irish to Proper English in an instant.

Good Story, Maybe.

I love most all Nora Roberts books. To me she is an author who can paint a vivid picture in my mind with a few well written words. Unfortunately, I never got there with this book because I just could not tolerate the narrator. It sounded like she took one big breath at the beginning of every sentence and the expelled it in a rush to see which she ran out of first - words or breath. I found myself skipping to the end of the book just to find out what happened as opposed to listening to it all the way through.

Narrator reading in a breathy whisper.

Nora Roberts is it go to write writer for me. I took a chance and bought a Nora Roberts audible book. The whole book was read in a breathy whisper. I almost could not finish the book. Before I buy a new Nora Roberts audible book I will check to see who the narrator is. If it's the same one I will not be buying it.

Is this really a Nora Roberts book??

I returned it for credit. It took me 3 days to get through 3 hours. The narration is horrible! The characters are boring, the story is boring. I love Nora Roberts. I hated this book.

Ending

Story was fun till the ending which I thought was pretty lame. The selection of the murder was not a satisfactory person or reason.

Kept Me Interested

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book was a reasonable choice for me as a commuter who listens to audiobooks on the drive -- it made the time by go quickly and was simple enough that I didn't have to concentrate very hard.

What other book might you compare Homeport to and why?

This is similar to a Harlequin Intrigue book, but with a better developed story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator could be inconsistent, especially with accents, and has a little bit of a monotone. She uses special effects to represent phone calls and characters' inner monologues.

It grew on me

This isn’t my favourite Nora Roberts book. While the story didn’t grip me from the start, it grew on me and I became somewhat invested about half way through. I also didn’t really like the female lead, she grew on me too, but to a lesser extent.
I liked her love interest and I enjoyed the subplot about her brother, and I wanted to know how it ended, but overall the whole thing felt very two dimensional. I gave it 2 stars, but it’s more like 2.5, it’s not a bad book, just not my favourite.
