Story
Ever hear the story about the bodyguard who falls for the rock star? Yeah, it never ends well. Each day I remind myself that it's my job to protect Stone. And nowhere in the job description does it say I should lust after the charismatic, charming man. Especially since we're opposites. But every night I spend with him the dangerous, off-limits attraction grows more intense. Until one night in a limo when we combust.

Milo. Unusual. Quirky. Different. I’ve heard it all. I’ve accepted I’m not for everyone. When I find out I inherited a bookstore and apartment on a small East Coast island, I jump at the chance for a new life. Turns out I’ve also inherited a sexy, tattooed guy who not only rents the space next to my store but my apartment too. Gideon. I wasn’t looking for a roommate, but it’s not like I can stay at Milo’s place while he’s banished to a hotel. According to Milo, we’re bestie goals. And if he doesn’t wear pants at home, who am I to complain?

I’m a rookie, in every sense of the word. But even though I have a wicked crush on the sexy shortstop on my baseball team, I won’t give in to my fantasies about him. I’m here in the majors for the first time to play ball. Not to experience my first time with a man. Trouble is, Declan Steele is sexy, flirty, and now, he’s my new workout partner. We’re spending mornings together in the gym, getting to know each other. Our connection is powerful—maybe because we each have our fair share of secrets and scars. Ones we'll both fight to protect.

Conor: It starts with a drunken text pic. The kind I would normally never send. Only, instead of it going to the flirty hotel bartender, it goes to some random stranger who actually responds. Wells: The first thing I notice about Conor Newell when he sits down in my high-rise conference room is how delightfully nervous he is. Then I see his tie. Look, when I met the sexy, witty Brit on the streets of London last night, I had no idea who he was. He was just that hot guy I wanted to have a drink with, so I asked him out for my first evening in town. One thing almost led to another. After a midnight kiss, we made plans for a whole lot more the next day. But when I unlock the door to my rental in the morning, the English hottie is lounging on the couch like he lives here too. Great. For the next year, I’ll be sharing a tiny flat with the sexiest guy I’ve ever known.

In my defense, I was left alone with a bottle of single-malt and a lifelong penchant for protecting my baby sister. Still, that's no excuse to send 10 drunk-texts on why her hasty marriage would be a mistake. If only I had just texted my sister. But nope. I accidentally sent the message to her, her groom, and his super hot wingman. I also used the phrase “super hot wingman”, so I’d like to die now.

It started out as a little fun. When there was a man in my building on a hookup app, why not message him? Only we didn’t meet. We just texted - one night after the other, after the other. GoodWithHisHands was the perfect escape from my life, where pressure was always on my shoulders: my father’s expectations, the worry about my sister, Maddy, getting sick again, and her ex-husband, Ryder Lynwood, suddenly back and volunteering at the same hospital as me. I like talking to him, the same way I enjoy chatting with GoodWithHisHands. They weren’t supposed to be the same person.

I left my family and tiny Texas hometown 15 years ago to escape small-town gossips and to give my mom and sister the chance at a better life. But when a phone call from an attorney back home informs me that my sister passed away, leaving me custody of her newborn baby, I'm shocked out of the steady life I've built for myself running a tattoo shop in San Francisco. The thing is: I don't do babies. And I don't do small towns. Or commitment. And I especially don't do family.

I’ve had a crush on my brother’s best friend since the moment I laid eyes on him four years ago. Publisher's Summary
Betrayed the night before his wedding by the supposed boy of his dreams, Ethan Robinson escapes the devastating fallout by going on his honeymoon alone to the other side of the world. Hard of hearing and still struggling with the repercussions of being late-deafened, traveling by himself leaves him feeling painfully isolated with his raw, broken heart.
Clay Kelly never expected to be starting life over in his forties. He got hitched young, but now his wife has divorced him and remarried; his kids are grown, and he's left his rural Outback town. In a new career driving a tour bus on Australia's East Coast, Clay reckons he's happy enough. He enjoys his cricket, a few beers, and a quiet life. If he's a bit lonely, it's not the end of the world.
Clay befriends Ethan, hoping he can cheer up the sad-eyed young man, and a crush on an unattainable straight guy is exactly the safe distraction Ethan needs. Yet as the days pass and their connection grows, long-repressed desires surface in Clay, and they are shocked to discover romance sparking. Clay is the sexy, rugged man of Ethan's dreams, and as the clock counts down on their time together, neither wants this honeymoon to end.
Contains mature themes.

Great for romantics at heart...
This was my first book by Keira Andrews and I was so pleased with her writing style, I have just bought another book written by her and will start it today.
This story - don't worry, no spoiler alerts here - was realistically told and brought about all my emotions from anger to love.
One of the things that I loved about this story is that sex was not a main part of the book. Too many gay stories are focused on the sex alone and not necessarily the character development. Keira spent the majority - 98% - of her time on character development.
Although at one point the story becomes predictable - OR you hope you are predicting the outcome - it is still masterfully told and you don't know the final outcome.
I fell in love with the main character and I was disappointed when the story ended. The epilogue was a great ending to the story.

Yep, Seriously Enjoyable, Slow Burn HEA
Younger American meets Older Rugged Sexy Aussie. That describes both Crocodile Dundee and this novel :)
Ethan is late 20s, he has coped with depression after the loss of his parents and hearing - and then on the eve of his wedding finds his fiance screwing his best friend. So Ethan goes on his honeymoon alone, where is he crushing on the Tour Bus Driver Clay, an older Aussie from the Outback (who becomes Ethan's own 'Crocodile Dundee') who is still finding his feet after his wife left him.
Clay's personal discoveries at the second half of the book were so well done.
The hearing loss was dealt well, although I was often irritated that Ethan was not the kind of listener who filled in the gaps when he missed words or phrases. And his frequent lack of ability to understand Aussie slang was frustrating. (Although as the novel progressed there were times when he did fill in the mumble-core blanks).
The epilogue was lovely, left warm feelings.
All this and the gorgeous narration of Joel Leslie.

Good Story, Great Narrator!
This is the first audiobook I've listened to. It was a really good choice! Many of the samples I've listened to before just didn't hold my attention and I wouldn't remember what I had listened to in the short 5 min. sample. Makes me realize I need to search out the narrators as much as I do the books.

When one unexpectedly becomes two
What happens when you have devastating news the day before you’re supposed to get married? What if that betrayal cuts so deep that leaving is the only alternative? Ethan had every right to walk away from his impending nuptials, and I give him credit for opting to go on the honeymoon solo. It’s doubly brave because Ethan is hard of hearing. Things that most of us take for granted are challenging for him. He’s learned to deal but it doesn’t make things easier for him and without his fiancé, he struggles. He’s from New York City, although Buffalo originally. He’s been through some tough things, to be sure, but going on a solo trip to Australia ranks up with one of the biggest challenges.
The tour he chose turns out to mostly be older people, couples in particular. He believes they are feeling sorry for him and perhaps at first some of them are. Others recognize the bravery it takes. The tour guide Shiv is friendly, but it’s the bus driver Clay who really makes an effort to help. He takes the time to get to know Ethan, way above and beyond any call of the job. But Clay sees Ethan in a way most people don’t. He sees beyond the hard of hearing aspect and into the lost soul Ethan is. He sees a bit of a kindred spirit. Clay’s twenty-something-year marriage ended recently and he also experienced loss, although it was gentler – if that kind of betrayal can be. He’s remained on good terms with his ex and has two children he adores. Children who are almost Ethan’s age. Something Clay reminds himself of as he gets to know this younger man.
I love age gap books when they’re done well. Neither man is expecting to find someone on this trip. Clay’s driven the route dozens of times without encountering anyone who has intrigued him. Ethan is still nursing a broken and betrayed heart. I think those are sometimes the most precious relationships – the ones we don’t see coming. The ones that, on paper, make no sense and yet are perfect nonetheless. Not that there aren’t obstacles. – the age thing is minor compared to the fact they live on opposite sides of the globe. America and Australia are a long way apart and long-distance relationships are challenging.
Yet as the book progressed, I began to believe in Clay and Ethan. Clay’s attention to Ethan and his accommodation of Ethan’s situation was touching. He was patient, understanding, and considerate. Ethan has faced enough challenges dealing with his progressive loss of hearing, but to find someone who respects and helps without being condescending is a blessing. And Clay? He figured he’d be alone, living in Sydney with his daughter and their dog, but meeting Ethan gives him hope. He’s never been into blokes before, but there’s just something about this young American. So much hope.
There are little things I enjoyed about the book. Clay’s classic Australian slang as Ethan struggles with the weird words. The truth that Die Hard is one of the best Christmas movies ever. Crowded House, a Melbourne band. I was startled to realize Clay and I are contemporaries (I feel much younger, FYI). Oh, and Gilley. Gotta love Gilley. And Adam Gilchrist, cricket, Crocodile Dundee, and dozens of other little things that made the book enjoyable and educational.
The book is narrated by Joel Leslie and he’s such a perfect choice. He can do American, of course, but he’s also brilliant in Australian. He moves seamlessly between the two and so the book flowed beautifully. He’s one of my favorite narrators and this book is a perfect example of why. Needless to say I enjoyed the book and was thrilled the men found their way to a happy ending.

Another winner by two all stars!
When I read the blurb I thought – ugh – I really don’t like jilted stories or rebound stories or holiday romances… but I love Keira Andrews and so I had to give it a go. Well, as always, she does not disappoint!
The emphasis on this is not the rebound but the realization of feelings that Clay has been hiding from himself for years. Sure, he’s a little older, they’re from different CONTINENTS and he’s on the rebound – but of course – it’s all gonna work out in the end! (LOL)
These guys do find a way to make it work that seems plausible – but really – in the end – it’s their journey that is so ooey gooey delectable. They talk, they aren’t afraid to emote and they have some pretty steamy smexy times!
Luckily the family thing isn’t an issue and beyond all the major hurdles we already know about, the author didn’t throw in more to be OTT.
This was a really lovely story that I recommend to fans of the author, fans of Australia, fans of May/December romance and fans of OFY/GFY romance.

Audio
Joel Leslie does a great job with the accents and – as always – he’s great with handling the wide variety of characters, the emotion and the timing.
Highly recommended!

Pure perfection!!! A++
Normally I don’t care for an age gap storyline. This story was awesome from start to finish. As always, the narration by Joel Leslie was tremendous. A must listen!

A lovely tale of romance
I'm not a huge fan of either Keira Andrews or Joel Leslie (though I like them both), so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story, which immediately rocketed to the top tier of my audiobooks listened to this year. I really enjoyed every aspect of it, from how Ethan's disability was handled, to Clay's journey accepting his sexuality, to the sense of adventure and fun that infuses the first half of it during the tour where the two of them meet, melting into a shy, quiet sort of romance in the second half.
Ethan has just been dumped, on the night before his wedding day, by his frankly loathsome fiance, who was cheating on him with his best friend. Ethan, who is mostly deaf, decides to take his honeymoon trip anyway, where he meets the tour bus driver Clay, a divorced father of two. Clay is straight, or thinks he is, but they both find themselves drawn to the other. I like the way it takes Clay quite a few narrations to feel the attraction; it's not a situation where two people instantly fall in love. After the tour, the two of them grow closer and earn their happy ending. It's sweet, uncomplicated, and low angst, but not at all boring. Ethan and Clay just both seem so NICE, and yet so realistically depicted at the same time. Their age difference is remarked on, generally by other characters, but never turns into a huge deal.
This is not, it should be stressed, a "gay for you" story. Clay didn't have much of a physical connection or romantic spark with his ex-wife, who he married young and was the only woman he had ever been with. Ethan awakens feelings Clay has repressed most of his life, for reasons that become clear. Everything develops believably and at a good pace. I like that Clay's ex wife is neither demonized nor martyred; she's just a woman who was trapped in a marriage that had become a friendship. She betrayed Clay's trust, but there's very little rancor or malice involved on either side. Even Ethan's ex fiance, Michael, who I detested, got the chance to tell his side of the story, and isn't just made into a knee-jerk villain.
The one part I could have done without, which was minor, was Ethan's lectures to Clay about sexuality. I suppose it could be chalked up to millennial nonsense, but it felt a bit too much like the author was lecturing the reader. No thank you, I've been out of the closet for 20 years, I don't need someone telling me about the gay community, thanks. This is something I've noticed happens frequently with this author; more so in recent releases. I wouldn't even mind except Ethan's lectures really go against the grain with my experience, starting with overlabeling Clay with fad words like "demisexual" (Clay leaves this one out when he describes himself late in the novel, thank god) and going straight on through to a treatise on the reclaiming of the word "queer," which, at the very least, Ethan acknowledges some "older" gay men still find distasteful. Yes, I DO find the word distasteful, and I'm not that old, thank you very much.
Like I said, it's only one or two short sections where this happens, but I found it irritating enough to knock the story rating down to four stars. Luckily, Joel Leslie's excellent narration bumped the overall rating back up to five. Leslie is hit or miss with me, but he really did a stellar job here. I liked his voice for Ethan especially, soft and vulnerable but not unmasculine. And of course his Australian accent is fantastic, at least to my inexpert ears. He alternates between narrating chapters with an American accent and Australian depending on the point of view. It's impressive.

sweet 🥰
It's review time 🎧
Narrator score🎧 ; Joel leslie as always nailed it. I don't think I heard a book by this narrator that I didn't liked. and it was incredible as well.
Level of steam🔥: it's a sweet slow burn with some steam and it's kinda hot as well.
Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: the story isn't sad its after the sadness. its the solution afterwards. and its lovely
The book itself📖: a very sweet book and a very cute romantic story, the Mc is with hearing problems and the author brings the frustration that he feels just in the best way possible. I love this book so much. its lovely and very humane. and I love it so.

Just a Great story!
Truly lovely, I enjoyed every minute! Best listen I’ve had in months. Not the typical filth these books usually have to offer, but a really special love story.
