Publisher's Summary

AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES AND #1 USA TODAY BESTSELLER

In the follow-up to It Happened One Summer, Tessa Bailey delivers another deliciously fun rom-com about a former player who accidentally falls for his best friend while trying to help her land a different man…

King crab fisherman Fox Thornton has a reputation as a sexy, carefree flirt. Everyone knows he’s a guaranteed good time—in bed and out—and that’s exactly how he prefers it. Until he meets Hannah Bellinger. She’s immune to his charm and looks, but she seems to enjoy his… personality? And wants to be friends? Bizarre. But he likes her too much to risk a fling, so platonic pals it is.

Now, Hannah's in town for work, crashing in Fox’s spare bedroom. She knows he’s a notorious ladies’ man, but they’re definitely just friends. In fact, she's nursing a hopeless crush on a colleague and Fox is just the person to help with her lackluster love life. Armed with a few tips from Westport’s resident Casanova, Hannah sets out to catch her coworker’s eye… yet the more time she spends with Fox, the more she wants him instead. As the line between friendship and flirtation begins to blur, Hannah can't deny she loves everything about Fox, but she refuses to be another notch on his bedpost.

Living with his best friend should have been easy. Except now she’s walking around in a towel, sleeping right across the hall, and Fox is fantasizing about waking up next to her for the rest of his life and… and… man overboard! He’s fallen for her, hook, line, and sinker. Helping her flirt with another guy is pure torture, but maybe if Fox can tackle his inner demons and show Hannah he’s all in, she'll choose him instead?

sick of this trope

Getting annoyed with one of the characters all of a sudden deciding they aren't good enough for the other, it's a tired trope, authors need to get more creative. Narration was ok, not my favorite.

not good

I didn't like It Happened One Summer and I'd say this one is worse. Cringe fest.

Slow burn, a little cheesy but fun.

Fun spicy chapters. Some of the dialogue was a little cheesy. Performer as a woman was great. As a man, it ruined the appeal a little for me.

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it

Same story as the first book, different progression but overall good. The characters self-doubt is exhausting.

not bad but not great (aka not sure why ppl gave it 5 stars)

idk what it was but i just didn’t like Fox (the male love interest) very much. it was prob his insistence on sticking to the lifestyle and labels placed on him by everyone else. you get to see some self reflection and growth throughout which is nice but man it was frustrating to hear him talk about himself.

Hannah was kinda annoying im sorry! you see how much she struggles with imposter syndrome due to her field (understandable but she literally had connections??). anyways she works through it BUT she wanted Fox to change for her so bad and took on the emotional labour of getting him to finally see his own self worth.

the story overall was cute with a friends to lovers focus. the dialogue in some of the “spicy” scenes was kinda weird, esp as an audiobook listener, i found myself going “who actually says this??” LOL sometimes it ruined the scene. maybe 1-1.5 good scenes and there were like 4-5 in total (i think).

i also didn’t find myself super drawn to this book as i have been with other rom coms and felt like i was listening just to finish it 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s not a bad book, others might enjoy it, just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Great read - a bit extra

Really enjoyed this book and the characters though I found their poor communication to drag on and be a bit frustrating. Nonetheless I loved reading it!

Not a rinse and repeat romance!

FINALLY! A story that isn’t full of predictable and overdone character tropes with cookie cutter plot lines. I so badly want to give a spoiler to give props to the author for not falling into it even though she set it up like that’s where it was going. Nice one! Thanks for the entertainment. Narrator did a great job, too!

Loved it!!

Would 100% recommend to anyone. I loved it ❤️

Hannah is a most certainly Leading Lady material to me. I adored her.
Fox is not the typical leading man I go for, but frig, some of his confessions made me swoon beyond anything ever before. I mean I had to send a quote to my writing group it was so good.

Thank you Tessa for writing this ❤️

These two are so good for each other!!

Love for each other even before they knew it. Fox was always known as the player and he got burned a long time ago. So he decided to go along with that reputation. Never let people know any different. When Hannah came to his small town with her sister. There was instant attraction. She wouldn’t put up though with his ways and treated him like a friend. He’d never had a friend who was a girl before. He didn’t really know how to do it. But he was drawn to Hannah. They’d text every day. They became best friends. They gave each other pep talks and were there for each other. When Hannah saw an opportunity to bring her work to the small town for a while she took the chance to be close to her sister and Fox. She end d up staying with him and breaking down the walls he had built around him. They really had a good love story. Friends to lovers with some hurdles along the way!!! Such a good listen!! 💕

Funny, sweet, 🔥

This was nice, light and, entertaining. With very likable characters. Just enough steamy parts. Loved it all!
