Publisher's Summary

Kennedy Ryan presents book three in the Hoops series.

A deeply emotional, standalone romance set in the worlds of professional basketball and high fashion.

Divorced. Single dad. Traded to a losing squad.

Cheated on, betrayed, exposed. My perfect life blew up in my face, and I'm still picking up the pieces. The last thing I need is her.

A wildflower. A storm. A woman I can't resist.

Lotus DuPree is a kick to my gut and a wrench in my plans from the moment our eyes meet. I promised myself I wouldn't trust a woman again, but I've never wanted anyone the way I want Lo. She's not the plan I made, but she's the risk I have to take.

A warrior. A baller. The one they call Gladiator.

Kenan Ross charged into my life smelling all good, looking even better, and snatching my breath from the moment we met. The last thing I need is him. I’m working on me. Facing my pain and conquering my demons. I've seen what trusting a man gets you.

I. Don't. Have. Time. For. This.

But he just keeps coming for me. Keeps knocking down my defenses and stealing my excuses one by one. He never gives up, and now...I'm not sure I want him to.

Hook Shot

I have read a couple of Kennedy Ryan's books, and the Grip series has been my favorite so far, and it still is my favorite. However, I had a few friends tell me that I needed to read Hook Shot, and I'm glad I did. As one reader said, it was sublime. I loved the transparency between Kenan and Lotus. It was beautiful the way they decided to be vulnerable with each other. Actually, I loved everything about this couple. The love notes with verses from the Song of Solomon was FIRE! The scene with -- Oh, I can't tell you the scene because it would be a spoiler, but I will say it made me go and read Psalm 35.

I enjoyed the book so much that I wish they were real and that they were my friends. I'm sure the narrators made me feel this way. Speaking of the narration, it was excellent! As I write this, there is more I want to say, so I will. LOL. The visual I had of the gallery scene is one I could go on and on about. The narrators definitely capture the intensity between Kenan and Chase. The hospital scene, the scenes at Lotus's grandmother's house, and the scene where Lotus had to make an important decision about her and Kenan's relationship were also times I felt the narrators were able to place me in the mind of the characters and allow me to feel their emotions.

What a series!!

This entire series of books is so rich and beautiful. I was waiting for Lotus’s story and it did not disappoint. As mentioned by another reviewer, there are so many themes touched on in this saga and each of them are detailed wonderfully. Worth every penny I paid for this. This is a true love story. Narrators were fantastic.

Slow but good

The female narrator voice sounds like Alexa. She doesn't really alternate between the voices, it's like she just read the book out loud. I had to follow along with the Kindle version. I love Jakobi, so his narration made the audiobook bearable (with a 1.25x narration speed)

On a different note, I admired this story, the connection between Lotus & Kenan, the realness, and the dialogue! They didn't let their age difference affect their relationship . I was also happy to hear Lotus's story since she was in the first book.

What I love most about Ryan's work is that she keeps it realistic, unlike some of these fairy-tale far-fetched romance stories.

I tried but couldn't finish

I have enjoyed other Kennedy Ryan titles but this one just made me want to through something... The story line was simplistic and utterly predictable and the narration was slow and tedious. It read like the editor went on holiday.

A beautiful and lyrical love story with all the feels

Kennedy Ryan is one of my favorite authors because her words have textures and depth beyond most romance. She dares to dwell into issues that are tough to tackle and she does it with so much sensitivity. This book touched on childhood abuse. when I first read the book I love Glad and Lo so much they almost dethrone my fav Grip & Bristol. I love Jakobi as Glad because I love his intonation and expression.

I have such high expectation for Lo so I was a little disappointed that Mia fell short of the Lo in my head. While I love her tone, I am used to female narrators who expressed themselves with more feeling whether it is anger or joy. Her male voice for Glad is also not my favorite. Romance narration needs a certain cadence for it to be enjoyable. If she want to continue to narrate more romance and I hope she would hope she would put in more feelings in her narration.

Horrible female narration

I wanted to really like this story but it was so predictable and repetitive. The female narrator was probably one of the worst I’ve heard in a while. Her tone was bad and her male voice was laughable and just horrible. I listened for Jakobi Diem but even his parts were slow and drawn out. I’m not sure if the author meant for it to be this way but these two narrators don’t work well together. The story overall wasn’t anything we haven’t heard or read a million times before. The added family history of voodoo made it a little interesting but she didn’t really do much with it so muh.

Loved!

Ah! Kennedy Ryan stories always hit so deep and make you feel so much!

I was so anxious to get Lotus and Kenan’s story. I needed to know more about Lo and couldn’t wait for more Kenan.

Oh my, Lo, this beautiful, strong woman that just needed to free herself from so many things. It is stunning to watch her spread her wings. Kenan is so patient and understanding and such a great father. Lo and Kenan’s chemistry is intense, and their slow burn relationship is beautiful to watch flourish.

There are a lot of raw emotions in this story and so many beautiful moments that steal your breath. It’s a journey of healing, forgiveness, sacrifice, and love. A beautifully written story that left me with a warm heart.

“Real faith requires bravery.”

got me hooked

this story is so beautifully crafted, and the narration couldn't be anymore perfect. I really felt the love between Keenan and Lo. how Kennedy writes their love story is so perfect and true to these characters, it breaks my heart a little to know they're not real people.

Song of Solomon

I am sad! This is the last book in this series. As in the other book, it deal with real life situations. Ms. Ryan’s writing is so detailed. Her storyline grabs you from page one. The character come to life. Kenyan and Lotus are both at a crossroad in their life. Can the overcome these obstacles to obtain the true intimacy that they desire.
