Another totally useless table of contents
Those who've read my other reviews won't be surprised by this one. This is a splendid anthology of forty classic stories by two dozen writers, well performed, but how do you get to a particular story, or even writer, when the audio table of contents consists of Chaapter 1 through Chapter 40? Why is this so common? The Stephen Fry collection of Sherlock Holmes has a perfectly good table of contents. I'd like to have been able to say "for instance" in that sentence, but I'm not sure the lazy fools of 'Audible have done this with any other item.

No titles in chapter listing
Lots of great stories in this collection, and the performance is just fine, but the stories are labeled as chapter 1, chapter 2, etc., which is just lazy for an anthology. The only way to figure out which chapter corresponds to which story is to click each one and listen for the title to be read aloud; pretty inconvenient. A tiny bit more effort would have made a big difference.

An eclectic catalog of weird fiction
This collection of horror, ranging from the ghost stories of Blackwood and James to the cosmic horror of Lovecraft, is a great offering of what the genre has to offer and is wonderfully narrated by Ian and Jen. Among the titans of the weird, Ian sprinkles in lesser known works that merit the attention of anyone seriously interested in widening their palette, including the criminally underrated Frank Belknap Long.
Others gems include more modern works by Bradbury, PKD and Vonnegut. Ian also plumbs the depths and procures some of the works of horror by Robert E. Howard (too often overshadowed by his Conan stories) and John Martin Leahy. Ian even offers a few of his own contributions to the weird as well.
All together a solid collection and narrated in such a way as to breathe new life into these great tales of the weird. Another excellent contribution from HorrorBabble in keeping the founders and practitioners of weird fiction alive. Looking forward to Volume II.

Fantastic collection deftly read
I am a huge fan of Horror Babble. The narrator, Ian Gordon, does an excellent job of transporting the listener into the stories and creating an atmosphere appropriate for these weird tales. This particular collection has a host of different stories by many of the stalwarts of the weird genre. I highly recommend listening to this volume and following all of the Horror Babble performances on Audible in other mediums.

(Mostly) Great stories, terrible editing decisions
Most of the stories are pretty good, but I find it annoying that the editor included his own stories. Imagine deciding that your own amateur efforts deserve to be included alongside luminaries like Lovecraft! It comes across as an attempt by the editor to "sneak" some of his own stories into publication. It's such a shady move that it biased me against the entire project. It's like a museum director slapping his kid's refrigerator art up on the walls of his museum among the Monets and Picassos and hoping the punters won't notice! Ridiculous.
Another problem is the narrator (who is also the editor, surprise surprise). Most of the narration is unskilled but ignorable. However, it becomes intolerable when he attempts to do "accents". Half the time I can't tell if a character is meant to be Irish, Spanish, or Eastern European!
Unfortunately, I there aren't many alternatives when it comes to audio editions of most of these stories. I wish the editor had stayed "on mission" and focused on producing a first-class audio anthology of OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK. With a competent narrator and without Gordon's own stories this would be a five star work. Unfortunately, the editor let his vanity get away from him and it dragged this down into the realm of the barely tolerable.

Glad I got the audio version
This book is an anthology of mostly, but not all, older horror stories. Many of the top names of horror make appearances. There is indeed a wide variety of stories contained in this volume. I enjoyed them all, but my favorite was Notebook Found In a Deserted House. As much as I would have enjoyed reading these stories, they were even better as narrated in this book. I am becoming a Horrorbabble fan and a huge fan of Ian Gordon. His voice and style of reading make this an excellent listen. This is one of the better horror audio books I have found and I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the older style of horror.

A Master Class in the Weird
HorrorBabble is doing a fantastic job of bringing together the weird masters to tell a broader story of how the genre has evolved over the past century. Ian has the perfect voice for the task.

Excellent Horror Series & Distinguished Narrator
Being a fan of other Horror Babble narrations, which I stumbled across a fear years back via Rue Morgue / YouTube, this is another excellent collection of horror tales. Ian is an excellent narrator that seems particularly suited to the readings of both classic and modern horror authors ranging from H.P. Lovecraft to Philip K. Dick.

Very nice collection of weird tales.
An excellent collection, but for audio-books everything hangs on the narrator. Fortunately the narrator is outstanding. I've actually been a fan of Ian's work for years now. With a collection like this with many famous authors, I get to enjoy stories I'm already familiar with as well as hear some new material. Highly recommended.

A very excellent tour of classic horror
Is there anyone that doesn't like a good horror story? Ian Gordon has assembled a collection of classic and modern horror from the likes of Poe, Bloch, Lovecraft, Dick, Blackwood as well as Ian himself. Combined with his unraveled narrations, these stories come alive and will leave the listener wondering what hit them. You'll want the lights on when listening. Sleepless nights await those who dare.
