Narrator and Story very weak

Narrator makes everyone sound desperate or out of breath all the time. Writing is very similar for both stories, woman is "so weak" and her man doesn't trust her until last minute. Very forced narrative and having characters say things that felt forced and so out of place. I only finished the two books as they were long and I needed to listen to something while I do house chores
