Publisher's Summary
In comedy, killing is a good thing. From the award-winning screenwriter and International Emmy nominee comes this unexpectedly dark and twisted thriller.
It's 1994, and three stand-up comedians have embarked on a tour of smaller communities across a remote stretch of rural Canadian countryside. Dale is a 40-something comic from Chicago who's on the back half of a mediocre career and thinking about quitting the business. Rynn is a 20-something fast-rising comedy star from Dublin with a big break into TV on her horizon. And who is this third guy, the hulking young man added to the bill at the last minute by a booker with dubious motives? He goes by Hobie Huge, and his enormous physical presence is unfortunately not matched by his skills as opening act. But his brutal lack of ability as a comedian turns out to be the least of his companion's problems. Huge starts to show signs of a terrifying capacity for brutality offstage too—and for Dale and Rynn, the tour becomes less about getting laughs and more about getting off the road alive.
It's going to take some getting used to, but Brent Butt is no longer just a funny guy. His debut novel is so accomplished it's frightening.
What the critics say
"Butt kills with a darkly comic thriller that could only be written by someone who knows there are worse things than dying on stage."—Linwood Barclay, bestselling author of Take Your Breath Away and Find You First
"A clever tribute to the craft of comedy. And the eerie itches it's used to scratch."—Charles Demers, author of Primary Obsessions
"Full of ironic humour. But I still found myself scared. Like . . . Silence of the Lambs scared."—Rachel Talalay, director, Sherlock and Doctor Who

Good character development
His writing kind of reminds me of Stephen King, quirky well-rounded characters whose backstory is revealed in pieces. A dark story, sure, but lots of dark humour as well. Enjoyable listen. His description of Ontario is spot on, as well!

The prose made me cringe several times
I get it. Another Canadian writer who can’t resist inserting every stereotype of Canadian/American difference regardless of how trivial it is. Everybody knows that washroom = restroom

Amazing read/listen
Greatly enjoyed this novel and was blown away by Butts’ tale of the road for a comic albeit with darker turns than most runs. Looking forward to future reads by the author.

Great Read!
Already being a Brent Butt fan from his tv series and a few fortunate laughter filled witnessing his always hilarious stand up routines, I wasn’t sure how he would transition to author (and narrator) but I was happily surprised. The story was one I hated to shut down. I enjoyed this book a great deal. Well done!!!

Riveting
I ran across this book by chance, and bought it out of curiosity. The Corner Gas guy wrote a book, and it's a thriller? it is, and it's a good one! Dark, suspenseful, at times disturbing, with some nice twists and relatable characters.
Butt manages to create a killer who is frightening but not entirely unsympathetic. There is a point in the story where you might go from fearing him to rooting for him, and right back to fearing him. You will come to understand him and maybe even kind of like him in spite of everything.
It was a well-paced story that got me interested quickly, and kept me wanting to know what happens next.

Brent Butt tells it from the heart
I love Brent Butt's comedy (No Clue was amazing) but was really excited to learn he had written a novel and that it was a thriller! I was even more thrilled to hear he was narrating the audiobook himself because I had a feeling he would "feel" the characters the way he wrote them. I wasn't wrong. He has true voice talent and he's able to jump between characters and accents in a believable way that carries you through the story. I feel like he knows all of these people and brings them right out of his imagination and into my life. I loved the story, I thought it was fresh. I think it would be a waste not to turn this into a movie since he so skillfully played it out as a radio play for me. I sincerely hope there are more thrillers to come.

Huge-ly entertaining!
A cast of fully realized characters inhabit this nightmare on the Canadian prairie and Brent Butt’s deft prose and pacing prove he knows how to tell a story. The author’s performance of the audio book edition is spot on, and the voice of each character is benefits from Butt’s strong delivery.

Brent, you didn't disappoint
I knew from the publicity that this wasn't a humorous book, but boy was it not. It was a fast paced thriller and I listened to it in about two days. I was sorry it was finished, it was that good. Brent's narration was excellent. I hope he writes more books, we have certainly missed him and this was an excellent first novel.

Great book
I've always loved Brent Butt from his work on Corner Gas, one of the best shows ever, so I was excited to read this book. He did not disappoint. From the first chapter, it is clear you are not in Dog River anymore, but the story is captivating and keeps the reader's interest. Great story, interesting characters. Can't wait to see what Brent Butt does next.

Wonderfully entertaining. Top notch performance!
I have more than 700 titles in my Audible library and rarely have I been so entranced by an author’s own narration.
I will confess that I am a HUGE fan of Corner Gas (see what I did there? 😉) and was expecting a comedic behind the scenes tell all of said TV show. Then I heard Brent Butt’s voice say “Huge, a Novel”. I felt like shaking my fist skyward and yelling about being cheated.
I grudgingly decided to turn my iPhone back on to give it a chance…and am I ever glad I did. I don’t want to give away too much but suffice to say that it felt like a Stephen King script if his hero was a stand-up comic on the road. Brent Butt’s story is that good!

Fekking good story
I liked Dale & Rynn, they were both people I would like to meet and would enjoy watching on the stage. Hobie, on the other hand, I would like to avoid meeting at all costs. I enjoyed listening to Brent’s narration. It definitely hit all the advertised highlights of a dark, humorous thriller. Congratulations Brent!
