Publisher's Summary

Human sacrifice still goes on uncomfortably close to home - cases have been found in the U.S., Europe, and the United Kingdom. In other parts of the world, such as South America, ritual killing is almost commonplace. Human Sacrifice investigates the terrifying current spate of human sacrifices and ritual killings. Jimmy Lee Shreeve draws on police reports and interviews with the victims' families to paint a horrifying picture of ritual sacrifice at home and abroad.

Embellished, Partly Autobiographical For Some Reason

This is one of those books where you ask yourself "What did I just read?" when it's over. I stumbled upon 'Human Sacrifice' while browsing Occult offerings on this platform, and it was free, so I thought, "Why Not?"
It turns out that it's pretty stupid.
Jimmy Lee Shreeve picks a number of sensational instances of ritual torture/killing, heavily dramatizes them, and goes for as much "shock value" as he can possibly attain. Then, inexplicably, he discusses his own experiences becoming a Satanist, admirer of Alistair Crowley, and Magician (weirdly including a meeting with Lucifer himself that he had in a vision). Shreeve takes his personal philosophies and uses them to explain/justify the heinous acts of some truly messed up psychopathologies (there is an actual chapter titled "Is It Really Murder?" for example. I'm not kidding).

As to presentation: James Patrick Cronin is most assuredly professional, and is more than "adequate" in reading this audiobook. Unfortunately, he affects an overdramatic "dark" narration tone, occasionally betrays some boredom while reading, and has a natural sibilance that Audible Studios Inc. engineers struggle to soften. Overall, this is an "average" listening product.

This audiobook merits a mere 3 stars out of 10. It wasn't a complete waste of time as a 'Plus' option, I guess, but nothing about the book will be sticking with me. If you spend a Credit on this, you're an idiot.
