Story
"I can't afford that." "Now's not the right time.... I need to save up." "Quit my job? Are you nuts?!" Sound familiar? Money is one of the biggest excuses we make to not go after what we really want. Our fixation with money - the desire for more of it, and the fear of not having enough of it - is often really just a longing to feel safe. But this obsession with money is coming at a much bigger cost: our sanity, our creativity, our freedom, and our ability to step into our true power.

This is your wake-up call to resist the Hustle culture and embrace the slowness of Jesus. Our culture makes constant demands of us: Do more. Accomplish more. Buy more. Post more. Be more. In following these demands, we have indeed become more: More anxious. More tired. More hurt. More depressed. More frantic. What we are doing isn't working! In a society where hustle is the expectation, busyness is the norm and information is king, we have forgotten the fundamentals that make us human, anchor our lives, and provide meaning.

Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

Publisher's Summary
A New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly best seller!
If Eckhart Tolle and Jim Carrey had a baby, that baby would be Kyle Cease.
After 25 years of achieving what he thought were his dreams of being a headlining touring comedian and actor, Kyle Cease suddenly discovered that the belief that "when something happens, I will be happy" is a complete lie. With nothing more than an intuition, he decided to quit his stand-up career at its peak, and now - as a transformational comedian - he brings his one-of-a-kind self-help wisdom to sold-out audiences in his Evolving Out Loud Live stage show.
In I Hope I Screw This Up, he disarms listeners as he leads them to their own personal breakthroughs, helping them to recognize that actual happiness and fulfillment is available to them - not in some distant future, but right now. As he has shown audiences all over the world, when you embrace your pain, fear, and vulnerability instead of pushing it away, you will discover an authentic creativity and power that is truly unstoppable.
Using self-deprecating personal stories and hilarious observations on life, Kyle unravels the deepest issues standing between us and emotional freedom. From discovering the never-ending opportunities that come from playing - and going with whatever comes up in the moment - to learning to let go of what feels heavy in our lives, this book is a journey into the endless possibility that can appear if we just dare to let go of our fear of screwing up.
This is not motivation. This is not inspiration. This is true transformation.

Right BANG ON!!!! Loved it!!!!!
I have followed Kyle for a few years now and the way he explains how he has grown over the years through his meditation and stillness practice has inspired me to do my own. His sense of humour is also pretty darn funny, keeping things light. Really enjoyed listening to this book. I found my self rewinding 30, 30, 30 to listen to some of his concepts over again to really let them land and soak in. Thanks you Audible and Kyle!!!! I appreciated the fact that Kyle not only narrated the book himself but he took the extra time to explain certain aspects of the book for those of us that were listening rather than reading the paper version!!!!! ❤️🙏🕉

Wanders, Hits A Truth, Then Wanders Again
I generally think comedians have genuine and hyper-intelligent observations that the rest of us can only appreciate, not demonstrate on our own. And such it is with Kyle Cease's I Hope I Screw This Up.
But that's the bad part, the part that keeps this from becoming a super tool for self-awareness and personal growth. There's plenty of good here but, just as Cease comes upon a truth, wham! He's off to the races on some humorous meanderings that keep you from being able to ingest what he has to offer. And there are plenty of poignant bits in this book that make that such a pity. He keeps saying things like: Back to the point, and: What I started out saying. How disappointing; how diverting.
I'd keep coming up on genuine connections then I'd be distracted by yes, quite chuckle-inducing bits. But I'm a Self-Development person and focus is key for true enlightenment. The guy can't help it that he's funny. But he could've made certain parts funny and certain parts serious rather than letting the book just wander.
Not a popular review, I know, but there you go. If humor is what you're looking for, with a few serious and enlightening bits, this book is for you. If you're looking for a true tool for self-development, you might be a tad exasperated as the digressions are all over the place. I applaud his intention, but I regret the execution: Good bits, wandering, more wandering, good bits, then wandering again and again.

Wanted to love it but didn't
Frankly I felt annoyed by this book. Just when he FINALLY is about to make his point he's suddenly yelling (not literally) "squirrel!!" and then lickity split he's off on another tangent. Maybe the rambling humor appeals to most, but it's definitely not for me. At least not in the genre of self development books. Can't say I got anything out of this other than a bit annoyed.

Too many bits, too meta, too unfocused
First of all for me start by saying I really enjoyed the illusion of money. It was (more) focused, had minimal humorous bits, which made them more impactful.
“I hope I screw this up”, Would get so inundated with comedic bits that stem off each other in a self-referential fractal of cheesy humor that it became a chore to listen to. I often found myself skipping ahead, hoping to grasp onto something grounded but I will always find myself in the middle of a bit.
Also this book is mostly about Kyle writing this book, which makes me wonder why I am even listening to it. I was kind of hoping for more inspiration for self reflection rather than hearing his journey about writing this book.
All of that being said, I feel like he has the potential to write something great again, but I would encourage him to use more research and more facts, so we don’t get lost in an over abundance of flowery prose and non-sequitor anecdotals.

I really enjoyed the flow of the book. Being an author myself, the creativity is just awesome for me to witness. Which gives me new focused energy to continue writing, along with other goals I've allowed my brain to stop.

good not great
there are some good nuggets, but at times it was not clear to me. Kyle is funny, but his reading is a bit dry.

Annoying book
yes, as expected it was a screwed-up book ! Congratulation.
If you like the "audible" humour of the author to be explained a picture that you can't see because you have the "audible" version :/ .... go ahead.
As he stated into his book, it is a book for Himself ! he absolutly don't care about the reader/listener.
Anyway, if you want to screw up 5h30m of your life, you know what to do
