About this listen
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In hilarious and tender essays, Chelsea Handler shares her unforgettable story of becoming the woman she always wanted to be.
“A raw and raucous exploration of Handler’s ongoing search for self . . . [She’s] disarming us with humor to get at our softest selves and meeting us with her own.”—Oprah Daily
There’s a woman I want to become, Chelsea Handler thought as a child. She’ll be strong and confident. She’ll light up a room and spread that light to make others feel better. She’ll make a living being herself. She’ll be a survivor.
At ten years old, Chelsea opened a lemonade stand and realized she’d make more money if the drinks were spiked. So she added vodka to her recipe and used her earnings to upgrade herself to first-class on a family vacation—leaving her parents and siblings in coach. She moved to Los Angeles and got fired from her temp job when she admitted she didn’t know how to transfer calls. She’s played pickleball with the scions of an American dynasty. She’s sexted a governor. She shared psychedelics with strangers in Spain. When she accidentally ended up at dinner with Woody Allen, she was not going to leave the table without asking him a very personal pointed question. She went on national television and talked about having threesomes. She's never been one to hold back.
But this life of adventure and absurdity is only part of her story. Chelsea knows what it is to truly show up for her family—canine and human, biological and chosen. She’s discovered how to spend time with herself, how to meditate, how to be open to love, and how to end a relationship with dignity. She is a sister to the many women who rely on her.
Surprisingly vulnerable and always outrageous, Chelsea Handler captures the antic-filled, exhilarating, and joyful life she’s built—a life that makes the rest of us think, I’ll have what she’s having.

Story
At thirty-six, Naomi Watts had just completed filming King Kong and was trying to start a family when she was told that she was on the brink of menopause. It is estimated that seventy-five million women in the United States are currently dealing with menopause symptoms (dry itchy skin, raging hormones, night sweats), and yet the very word “menopause” continues to be associated with stigma and confusion. With so little information, many women feel unprepared, ashamed, and deeply alone when the time comes. This is the book Naomi Watts wishes she had when she first started experiencing symptoms.

Story
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

Funny, honest, vulnerable and wise.
I love this book! Its the kind of book I feel compelled to give to everyone I know. The audible is fantastic, I love her fierce and loving heart. She is the kind of friend I want in my life and the kind of friend I want to be. Love, compassion, gratitude, kindness, fun and generosity are the keys. Bringing an honest desire to help lift people up and make the world better is the point. The chapter called Woman is stunning.

A genuine and authentic read
This book was very thoughtfully written. It promotes self-reflection and critical thinking without a preachy “self-help” vibe. Chelsea allows herself to be vulnerable in allowing us to see the beautiful life that she has created, her mistakes, the work she’s put into herself and growth- which in turn pushes the reader to dig deep and self-reflect as well.
The overall energy of this book gives strength, positivity, confidence, learning, lessons, triumph, support, joy, humour and a deeper sense of self! I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend to anyone! I think those that get it, get it.

The evolution of Chelsea
I have been a fan of Chelsea's for decades now, which comes with a mixture of pride and fear. Fear in that I am aging too rapidly, while I'm proud to constantly want to come back to see what she has to say next. As I age, I can draw the parallels between her stories and wisdom with my own life's path. While I'm not skiing topless in Whistler with a dog strapped to my back, I do think Chelsea can speak to everyone through her messages. I love seeing her seizing life and making the most of it. It's this message that resonates with me most in all her books. If I'm ever fortunate to get a sliver of her life, I will be a happy gay man. She speaks with such clarity about how to get what you want by being you. It's easier said than done, which Chelsea will admit to. Her work is not without acknowledging the hardships she faced and all that effort that goes into it. Keep on skiing, Canada loves you, and when I get to Mallorca, I will be looking for a night time therapy session.

I’m glad aging as a woman is FINALLY being praised
I’m an avid listener of Chelsea’s advice podcast because of how brave she is to tell it to people straight but also adding a touch of love and compassion to her advice. This novel portrays exactly the energy that Chelsea gives back to the community of humanity, being truthful, funny but also adding lots of love. She makes me excited about aging as a woman and really stepping into her role as a wise, wild woman. Thank you for sharing your truth and always making me strive to live a more joyful life.

Hilarious!
I devoured this book in one day and laughed so hard. Chelsea talks about her life primarily during the pandemic and how she never wanted kids, but kind of inherited some through a partner she was with. She lovingly calls them “Poopsie, whoopsie and oopsie” and they refer to her as their father. She talks about the joy those kids brought to her life and their special connection all while sharing funny moments throughout. If I could give this book a higher rating, I would. This is the first book I’ve read of hers and I will definitely be on the lookout for more! *chefs kiss*
