Cute, charming, funny

Cute, charming, and funny, I'm In Love WIth the Villainess is a sapphic romantic comedy based on the now somewhat cliché premise of a Japanese woman waking up one day to find herself in her favourite Otome Visual Novel/RPG game. Refusing to romance the canonical love interests, Rae instead pursues the haughty noblewoman rival of the heroine: Rae's now not-so-fictional crush and subject of Rae's fan fiction in our world. I'm In Love WIth the Villainess is a series with surprising depth. Later volumes get deeper into the supporting cast, the turbulent politics, and the world building of the setting. The work is own voices fiction by an out, Japanese lesbian, and so there's some very good, honest discussions of queerness and homophobia that reflect lived experience.
