I have read many fiction and non-fiction books about the war, and this is by far one of the best. It is a true story of one woman’s courageous battle, not only in war, but with God, her sense of self and then overcoming the odds. I would recommend this book to anyone going through anything difficult. The narration and writing of this book were also extremely well done.

I am awestruck at the courage and perseverance shown by such a young girl. I found her story tragic, yet inspiring and hard to stop listening to.....thank goodness for mankind that people like Irene existed!!
