Publisher's Summary

Named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most important innovators of the century, Tariq Ramadan is a leading Muslim scholar, with a large following especially among young European and American Muslims. Now, in his first book written for a wide audience, he offers a marvelous biography of the Prophet Muhammad, one that highlights the spiritual and ethical teachings of one of the most influential figures in human history.

Here is a fresh and perceptive look at Muhammad, capturing a life that was often eventful, gripping, and highly charged. Ramadan provides both an intimate portrait of a man who was shy, kind, but determined, as well as a dramatic chronicle of a leader who launched a great religion and inspired a vast empire. More important, Ramadan presents the main events of the Prophet's life in a way that highlights his spiritual and ethical teachings.

This aidopbook underscores the significance of the Prophet's example for some of today's most controversial issues, such as the treatment of the poor, the role of women, Islamic criminal punishments, war, racism, and relations with other religions.

Selecting those facts and stories from which we can draw a profound and vivid spiritual picture, the author asks how can the Prophet's life remain - or become again - an example, a model, and an inspiration? And how can Muslims move from formalism - a fixation on ritual - toward a committed spiritual and social presence?

In this thoughtful and engaging biography, Ramadan offers Muslims a new understanding of Muhammad's life and he introduces non-Muslims not just to the story of the Prophet, but to the spiritual and ethical riches of Islam.

The performance made this difficult to read

the performance is so grandiose it takes away from the meaningful interpretations of Muhammad's life

Very well written just not the right voice

I think this book is very comprehensive and I really enjoyed listening to it. The storytelling and quality of writing is superb. I just cringed whenever the reader tried to say Arabic words. Honestly, don't know why they picked a white guy to read this book. They should have picked someone who has full command of both English and Arabic so that us listeners can actually understand what he says in Arabic and not cringe every time he tries.

A great story to listen to...

I feel that Dr. Tariq Ramadan has carried out a very scientific approach in writing this biography of the greatest man the human history could witness... The writer provides very logical explanations to the events with authentic reports... no topic was left incomplete and a smooth relation could be realized between different sections of the book... the chronological reporting of the events does not leave you lost and you constantly feel engaged... I wish to listen it again... the narrator has done a great job also.

Great Sunmary

This book is a great one for anyone who wants to know the real Islam and who Prophet Muhammad is. The author summarizes a history of the Prophet in great story-form fashion that makes it easy to follow along and understand. There are many details that are left out if the history and some references made that don't make sense unless you were already exposed to Islamic history, but overall a great book!

appears colored by bias

i dod not feel enticed to finish reading. It sounded all as propaganda to me. I was looking for an objective read. This book is filled with the subjective views of the subject-adoring author.

Great read!

I really enjoyed this book. I feel like it was a very nice summary of a life that can never be told in one book in its entirety but this one did a very nice job. My only complaint is the narrator's arabic pronunciation wasn't very accurate but you get the idea well enough. I would highly recommend this book to Muslims and non-muslims as a wonderful example of the life of the Prophet (SAW)

I wish I could return this item

It disturbing to learn how the author is a man who uses his influence in society to abuse it and hurt others I really wish I knew I would have not have contributed to his work by purchasing this book. I wanted to have a clear idea of who the prophet a complex man him self was and now from such a week source the author him self i will have to find another way

A great reminder of a great man

This book puts down the story of the prophet in a simple yet powerful form that reminds us to be better people and seek to be closer to God.

It does not have a specific focus but offers a broad summary that is a good starting point or a way to be reminded of the overall story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The prophet pbuh

What does Peter Ganim bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was a decent narrator but his pronunciation of the word "muslim' was annoying. I can't stand it when ppl say moslem.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No

Any additional comments?

Very very good read or audio book. I only purchased it because I have the utmost respect and admiration for Tarek Ramadan. I don't trust anyone beside the wives and companions when it comes to prophet Muhammad PBUH Biography.
