Publisher's Summary

An inspirational and bold memoir from the most successful woman ever to compete on Jeopardy!—and an exploration of what it means to ask questions of the world and of yourself.

In eighth grade, Amy was voted “Most likely to appear on Jeopardy!” by her classmates. Decades later, this trailblazer finally got her chance. Not only did she walk away with $1.3 million while captivating the world with her impressive forty-game winning streak, but she made history and won an even greater prize—the joy of being herself on national television and blazing a trail for openly queer and transgender people around the world. Now, she shares her singular journey that led to becoming an unlikely icon and hero to millions. Her super power: Boundless curiosity and fearless questioning.

In the Form of a Question explores some of the innumerable topics that have fascinated Amy throughout her life—books and music, Tarot and astrology, popular culture and computers, sex and relationships—but they all share the same purpose: to illustrate, and celebrate, the results of a lifetime spent asking, why?

Great!

I quite enjoyed this book. While Amy’s time on Jeopardy is included, the book is more of a memoir. Specifically, it is a transgender coming out story. I have a lot of respect for Amy as she helped me understand what it means and feels like be trans (I have been trying to educate myself!). Upbeat, funny and sincere.

A disappintment

I wanted to read this book based on Amy's life journey, understanding that it might delve into uncomfortable territories. As a fan of Amy from her appearances on Jeopardy, I was eager to cheer her on. Initially, the narrative offered interesting glimpses into Amy's childhood, which, like many of ours, had its share of challenges. It appeared to be a reasonably content upbringing. However, as the story progressed into Amy's adulthood and her quest for self-discovery, I found myself increasingly uneasy with the language and explicitness of her experiences. I had hoped she would maintain the demeanor she exhibited on Jeopardy, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I'm by no means a shrinking violet and certainly not averse to use colourful language when the situation calls for it, but I simply couldn't bring myself to complete this book.
