Publisher's Summary

Take a chance.

Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin doesn’t trust easily, and he most certainly doesn’t trust spies. He’ll work with them if ordered to, but that doesn’t mean he has to like it. Except Agent Sean Delaney is proving to be the exception to the rule. There’s something about Sean that gets under Alexei’s skin and won’t let go. Alexei would be lying if he said he wasn’t interested in what lay beneath the agent’s mask. When they’re assigned together for a mission, Alexei vows to keep Sean safe all while trying to coax the hot agent into his bed.

Hold onto hope.

Agent Sean Delaney has spent his entire adult life living a lie for his country. When the MDF tasks him with finding evidence of criminal wrong-doing against the owner of a private military company, Sean knows exactly how to play the game to get what he wants. He just doesn’t know how to handle Alexei’s advances, nor his own attraction to the younger soldier. Being a spy is lonely work, and Sean knows he should keep his distance, but saying no to Alexei is impossible from the moment they first kiss.

In a world of lies, the truth can be deadly.

When the mission takes a turn for the worse, the only thing left to do is run. In the wake of betrayal, and in the path of danger, can their fragile trust survive the battle?

In the Shadows is a steamy gay sci-fi military romance with a HFN ending that skirts HEA. There is military violence within the story that may not be suitable for everyone, as well as explicit intimate scenes not suitable for listeners under the age of 18. This is a direct sequel to In the Ruins and listening to the previous audiobooks in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

Techno-Thriller Romance with a Great Narration

In The Shadows is book 3 in the highly addictive and entertaining Metahumans Series by Hailey Turner.

This book is written from Sean and Alexei's POV , so their developing relationship takes the main stage. This subplot is interwoven with the other plots and advances the story main arc.

Greg Boudreaux voice is mesmerising . His pacing is great and the way he convey emotions and sexy times are rousing and hot AF. Perfect for this very steamy and romantic series.

At this point of my review , I don't need to say who is who and what is the plotline in The Metahumans Series as for you to get to this point , you must have listened to book 1 and 2 . These books aren't standalone ; need to read it in the chronological order they were published.

Wow!! Just love Alexei and Sean together! Loved the narration!! I listened all day... totally caught up in the story!!

Action, romance, high stakes card games, suspense, fighting incredible odds and finding a way to survive and win some. Both of the MC's are just incredible together whether they are working or loving. You can feel their connection as they find their way through all the barriers that are thrown their way. I love these guys and the team together totally rocks!

The story-line was compelling and the writing flowed really well!!

WOW!!!

Alexei and Sean do not have a cute meet or even cutsy moments in the beginning of their relationship but it is more impact with how they interact with each other and develop their own relationship amid the chaos and betrayals. This is action packed and will leave you wondering what happened as they forge their own way through everything standing in their way.

Make a note: you really should read the first two books to get all the details of Alexei and Sean as well as a true understanding of the world that is build here.

Great series

This is the third book in the Metahuman Files series by Hailey Turner and narrated superbly by Greg Boudreaux. The story revolves around Metahumans who are the survivors of terrorist attacking using a chemical known as splice. The survivors gain powers which when applied in a military division become incredibly useful. The first two books in the series focused on Jamie and Kyle but this book focused on two other characters allowing the reader to learn more about the others in the group.

Really love Greg Boudreaux and his ability to provide distinct voices to each character. He is performing the book and not simply reading it aloud like many narrators tend to do.

OMG! I need the next one, amazing!

Hailey Turner's writing is so damn amazing! I don't know why I waited so long to read/listen to this series!! There is just so much action that's written with such careful and amazing detail, I feel like I am there witnessing everything go on. I feel like I'm there. This team is truly an alpha team so professional and poised and on it. I loved that this book focused on Alexei, I really wanted to hear his side of the story and his life, though I did miss Kyle and Jamie haha.
Sean and Alexei are super cute and Sean helps bring this story closer to the enemy. The action in this book had me on edge, the emotional side and action side were both amazing.

Greg Boudreaux does an amazing job changing his voice for the characters, I do have to say that his voice for Alexei is one of my favorites!

Great book!

This is an exciting installment in the awesome Metahuman Files series. Alexei and Sean finally get together, and they're sexy and surprisingly funny together. Alexei is cocky as always, but he is also protective and witty. Sean deals with the guilt over lying to his family for years, and he is basically alone and lonely until the sexy Russian sets his sights on him. I am so glad they don't have a lot of unnecessary angst in their relationship, because there's plenty of drama in Sean and Alpha Team's latest mission.
Along with a terrific storyline, we have the fantastic performance of a narrator who always takes a great book to an even higher level. I am loving this series and have already recommended it to friends.

Great Story

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. This is the 3 rd book in this series. I need to read the first two
books now to get myself up to date on this great series. The narrator did an excellent job.

Action-packed!

Agent Sean Delaney and Staff Sargeant Alexei Dvorkin come together in this fast-paced HFN thriller where they fight against domestic enemies intent on causing havoc by creating a metahuman capable of defeating the MDF forces working to keep peace in the US and, when so tasked, in the world. Sean and Alexei are working undercover on a case when their cover is blown and the resultant investigation into how it happened leads to the discovery of a connection between a top CIA leader and the Sons of Adam, the homegrown terrorist group that the MDF has been fighting against since its inception. They must race to protect Sean's family, and then deploy to infiltrate and contain the trouble brewing as a result of their discovery of the new threat. And in between it all, they must find a place of trust, which they do, until their chemistry ignites into powerfully satisfying lovemaking. I can't give this story five stars because I found the development of their relationship to be quite stodgy, stilted, jerky, not smooth or organic. I couldn't believe it the first time they made love in Alexei's apartment. I kept going back to try and figure out where they had crossed the line from colleagues to friends to get to this point. And the other two times in between the action, when they got together, the switch from action and drama to steamy sex scene was awkward at best. And finally, the narrator's performance was fine, except that too often he missed making the right emphasis on a word that was pivotal to the meaning of the sentence he was reading and thus to the significance of the moment in the scene. He gets four stars for his great work on accents as well as his ability to distinguish between male and female tones. So, overall, four stars.
