Publisher's Summary

(Minor spoiler and warning at the bottom of the blurb. Please read all the way through.)

Sameerixis, or Sam for those who actually know him, isn’t what you’d call normal.

He’s a door-to-door salesman, of sorts. One that peddles wares, wishes, and whims to anyone willing to pay his prices.

Prices that usually involve a few years of your life, maybe a handful of days, or a single night of pleasure that’ll cost a few hours.

He’s an incubus that solves problems. Mental, emotional, spiritual, material, and anything and everything in between. Sam can provide an answer and resolution.

A one-man shop and service provider.

Or he was. When he had work available to him.

Unfortunately, he’s been unable to work for quite a while, due to the simple fact that he’s been imprisoned against his will by an old business partner.

Except something’s changed.

A portal, a way back to the planes, has opened with his name on it. On the other side isn’t what he wished for nor what he feared.

Sam’s made the choice to go back and start up his business again. From the ground up. In just a moment he’ll make that leap over and into another plane.

Little does he know that with that first step he’ll move straight from the known, to the unknown, then to the inadvisable.

Warning: This novel explores dark subjects, and what people will give up of themselves, and each other, to get what they want. The main character is written as a demon from another plane in a tough situation, and will not make choices that line up with societal and cultural norms.

It contains adult themes and moral ambiguities.

As with my previous work, explicit scenes are found within. It has violence and a harem relationship.

Sams inconsistencies hurt the story (spoilers)

Based on the description I expected a version of Needful Things but this was definitely not that, not even close. The story is interesting and Sam's harem definitely has some likeable characters (although the best one doesn't join until the last chapter or so). I did like the Robin Hood aspects of the story even if they are just a thin plot device so Sam can get his revenge (which he wants one minute then can absolutely live without the next). A couple of other issues with the story are the fact that Sam only seems to know two positions when it comes to sex (isn't he a sex demon?), almost everyone of the women reacts with the exact same reluctance when it comes to sleeping with Sam even though they know he is an incubus and the fact that I was more surprised when they actually did kill someone than didn't (every woman he meets is ready to betray her old life to sign up with him except the one woman who us written as reprehensible/disliked--guess which one dies?). I had some issues with the heist and the raid as well but those are personal and don't really impact the story. Also, I hate Irma. Hate her. Abby is a much better support character and the blood of his beloved. Sam's relationship with Irma makes my brain hurt. Andrea Parsneau did a fantastic job as narrator and was the reason I picked up the book. Upon review it looks like I disliked this book, I didn't. I gave it 4 stars and I am interested in checking out the sequel because I did enjoy it.

Fun!

This was completely different from what i was expecting, and I'm so glad! this book was amazing. I went in less then excited because it sounded like more fostering faust (which are grate but not my thing) I loved this book, I loved how the main character thinks, I love his decisions, and for someone who is not human he is rather identifiable.
