Publisher's Summary
Military might and arcane powers clash in Wexler's fifth action-packed Shadow Campaigns novel.
The Beast, the ancient demon imprisoned beneath Elysium for a thousand years, has been loosed on the world. It absorbs mind after mind, spreading like a plague through the north. And it threatens the heart of Vordan.
As Queen Raesinia Orboan and soldiers Marcus D'Ivoire and Winter Ihernglass grapple with the aftermath of a hard-fought military campaign, they soon discover they have more than arcane powers to fear - it seems they cannot trust one of their own.

Wexler never disappoints!
another great book to a great series. my only criticism would be that the narrators female voice was a bit off-putting. other than that very impressed as always.

This Author just continues to get lazier....
Who in the world would give up being a Queen, only to allow the "Liberals" to be placed in charge of her & her country? This entire story is ridiculous. The fact that this author, whether he a man or a woman should turn a Sci-Fi Fantasy into a gratuitous Lesbian Love Story just Disappointed me to no end.
**I'm a long time customer with Audible & think they're not being very Loyal to their Customers when they Trick them into buying a book in a Genre that is Mislabeled on purpose just to make more sales.
*This book should have been marked in the Gay & Lesbian genre, so they can at least warn their long time, paying customers about the content in the book series!

A disappointing and predictable end
This story ends without any real surprise. The main characters are victorious without any twists. My favorite character, Janus, got the short end of the stick again despite having effectively save the world. Overall, unimpressive conclusion.

Simply amazing
Hardly any serial author knows how to finish out a story. Django Wrexler’s writing is a rare example of the elegance and care it takes to bring a close to such a long and wonderful story.

Fun series
I love all things flintlock fantasy.I rank it below the work of Brian McClellan but still enjoyed it. The reason I rank it below was their were a few characters and a couple parts of the books that kind of annoyed me. While I gave it 5 starts in truth 5 felt too high of a score, many aspects of it where 5 star while other parts where 3/4. Than the two series by Brian McClellan 5 didn’t feel high enough. All in all for fans of flintlock fantasy it’s worth a listen, give it a chance.

Excellent!
I've read and listened to quite a bit of fantasy and rarely do I write reviews, but I have to say that this series is exceptional. The world building, the nuanced characters, the plotting and pacing, and of course, a very interesting magic system. Django Wexler nailed it!

Why
I’m sorry but Queen R could’ve just not been a main character. Her demon is a 3 at best. And all of her decisions are naive, selfish, and kind of idiotic. Soth would’ve been better as a main character & she could’ve just told Queen R’s story.

The end of an endless adventure
This epic story feels like it can go on forever. Reading the previous books in this series is not strictly required but greatly encouraged.

A Must Read Series!
Wow! How did I get through the whole series already? I couldn't put it down, that's why. Amazing and diverse characters, and strong female leads, well balance story that left you satisfied at the end.
