Publisher's Summary
A vicious attack at a ranch in California thrusts archaeologist Erin Granger back into the fold of the Sanguines. Following the prophetic words found in the Blood Gospel, Erin must join forces with Army Sergeant Jordan Stone and Father Rhun Korza to discover and protect a boy believed to be an angel given flesh. But an enigmatic enemy of immense power and terrifying ambition seeks the same child, not to save the world, but to hasten its destruction. For any hope of victory, Erin must discover the truth behind Christ's early years and understand His first true miracle, an event wrapped in sin and destruction, an act that yet remains unfulfilled and holds the only hope for the world. The search for the truth will take Erin and the others across centuries and around the world, to the very gates of Hell itself, where their destiny, and the fate of mankind, awaits.

Great story
some facts given force the reader to suspend belief (or faith) however if one can do that it becomes a very engaging story

Fantastic continuation in the series.
Fantastic book 2 in this series. Actually leaves you spellbound. Of course just when you think the story is complete here cones the cliffhanger last sentence. This is definitely a James Rollins classic. Highly recommend.

This series is very imaginative and thrilling!
I have always loved the way James Rollins uses fact and fiction in his novels and adding Rebecca Cantrell was genius!

good storyline
I've enjoyed the series thus far - down to the last book. The only thing I have not liked is the narration. I always hate to critique a narrator, because it just may be a particular series. Unfortunately, in this case the narrator does not make the book ... only the storyline keeps me coming back. Not sure I would have kept on listening if this wasn't a series.

Catholic?
I fully realize James Rollins is immersed in Catholicism and seems to know a lot about it, but I HIGHLY doubt Lazarus, the friend of Jesus Christ, was Catholic and intoned Latin mass. Catholicism came later. Also, scripture clearly states Christ was without sin, so as one who views Jesus as God and the most holy of holiest, I didn't appreciate THAT little nugget.
If, however, viewed as nothing but the fairy tale this story is, it's pretty good, and I'll listen to the third book as well, because, you know, Lucifer can of course be defeated by humans. Of course, lol.
Hands down I prefer Rollins on his own and not co-writing. I love his Sigma series but do wish he would write more stand-alone novels. I guess the money is only in series tho, since that's all you ever see anymore.

Could it be?
This story line fascinates. Characters are enjoyable. A fair mix of reality and fiction, as is the authors’ way. The voice acting captures the story line; tone, cadence, tenor and timbre aligned with intention. I hope there’s a third.

Returning
Read the first book in 2014 and thought I would like this one. I'm 2 hours in and wondering why I spent a credit on it. I will be returning.

another great story
loved the story and how it combines fiction with history and a bit of religion into a crafty tail.. Christian is a great narrator and really brings the story to life. looking forward to the next chapter.
