Publisher's Summary

Intuitive Eating is the go-to book on rebuilding a healthy body image and making peace with food. We’ve all been there - angry with ourselves for overeating, for our lack of willpower, for failing at yet another diet. But the problem isn’t us; it’s that dieting, with its strict rules, keeps us from listening to our bodies. Written by two prominent nutritionists, Intuitive Eating will teach you how to reject diet mentality forever; how our three eating "personalities" define our eating difficulties; how to find satisfaction in your eating; how to feel your feelings without using food; how to honor hunger and feel fullness; how to follow the 10 principles of "intuitive eating"; how to achieve a new and safe relationship with food and, ultimately, your body; and more.

This revised edition includes updates and expansions throughout, as well as two brand-new chapters that will help readers integrate intuitive eating even more fully into their daily lives.

Amazing book

This book will change lives. What a refreshing change of conversation about eating, weight and wellness. Not only do I feel healed as far as my relationship with food and my body, I feel some deeper healing from my childhood and negative emotional patterns and cycles. Thank you for this book.
I found the narration style a bit annoying. For me, Pam Ward’s voice was good but she didn’t sound authentically connected to the content.

This book helped me so much

I always struggled with dieting and food guilt and this really allowed me to feel better and normal when I eat. I understand now that food is not supposed to be the enemy...

Interesting and helpful but...

... the science behind IE is oversimplified.
I think the narrator’s old-fashioned speaking voice voice and condescending intonation drags down the quality of this audiobook. I would like to read this book in a conventional format because as it is I feel the information is watered down to the lowest common denominator. A narrator with a more contemporary or comedic tone would be an improvement.

Binging is gone ☺️

When I found myself binging while dieting, I felt like I was living hell on earth. I became food obsessed and I feared binging or being near food because I was so emotionally affected by it. Thanks to the principles in this books I have being able to recover in less than a month. I also read the bought the audio book "a thin's woman brain" , and "read brain over binge". I can finally say that I have started to fully live, and I enjoy food and life without feeling deprived anymore. Thank you for writing this book.

Loved the content. Hated the reading style.

The content is very inspiring and informative and applicable. The reading style is totally inappropriate and hard to endure. I wish they would re-record it.

It really is like a field guide

Would you consider the audio edition of Intuitive Eating to be better than the print version?

I bought both audio/kindle- the book offers the tables/reference materials and the audio is just easier for me to consume in total.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Intuitive Eating?

Just understanding the equation of: restricting --> deprivation --> grasping --> guilt -->restricting. Once you X out restricting OF ANY KIND - the whole equation goes poof! For me the last frontier was letting go of restricting. I had all these little hidden restrictions (telling myself I wasn't dieting) - you have to truly let go of them for this to work.

What does Pam Ward bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I felt like I was getting counseled directly by an expert. Someone who really understands the depths of this and someone with empathy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions - the book is mellow.

Any additional comments?

Having read all of Geneen Roth's books and Have your Cake and Skinny Jeans too - this book fills in some of the gaps. Really helped cement the practices - and helped me to understand how to apply day to day - practical. Yes it repeats a lot - but when you're unwinding decades of dieting- repetition is good!!

Narrator really off-putting

Would you listen to Intuitive Eating again? Why?

No, I didn't finish it and just read the book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Didn't finish.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I couldn't stand this narrator. I dislike it when the tone of voice implies that if you don't buy the theories you are stupid.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

N/A.

Any additional comments?

Interesting concepts, but can't recommend the audio.

Cannot stand this narrator

I implore the authors to re-record this wonderful book with someone who isn’t channeling “stuck up and condescending” as their tone. It’s intolerable because by her overacting she’s imparting meaning to this book that was definitely NOT intended by the authors. Worst audiobook I’ve ever attempted to listen to.... so disappointing.

I hate the reader so much I can't listen to it

Would you try another book from Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch and/or Pam Ward?

Doubtful.

What could Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not be low-fat, calorie-control advocates pretending to be otherwise.

Would you be willing to try another one of Pam Ward’s performances?

NO NEVER! I hate her artificial-sounding, schoolmarmish voice. Horrible. Completely detracts from the experience.

Outdated

What would have made Intuitive Eating better?

Different narrator and the 3rd edition rather than 2nd.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed. I discovered this is an older edition. Plus the narrators style is very irritating to me.

life changing!

This book has helped me to start the journey of making peace with food and accepting by body the way it is now.
it has changed the way I see weight and food and it is changing the way I raise my children.
this book is a life saver!
I wish I had found it before in my life. But I am happy to have found it now and change my relationship with food.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is a good book with valuable information. It's just one I struggled to follow in audiobook format.
