Publisher's Summary

The Black Fleet Saga continues....

A human planet has been invaded. The enigmatic Darshik have landed troops on a frontier world and have begun subduing major cities even as their blockade repels all attempts by the fledgling United Terran Federation to mount a counteroffensive.

The Federation's military command is desperate, and with their fleet still in tatters, they make a last-ditch effort to free the planet: They pull Captain Jackson Wolfe out of retirement and put him in command of a ship they hope can get past the defending armada and provide support to the beleaguered Marines and civilians fighting on the surface of the contested world.

There is no reasoning with this enemy. If the Terran Federation wants their planet back, they will have to pay the price.

Iron & Blood is the second book of the Expansion Wars Trilogy and the fifth book of the Black Fleet Saga.

good but not great

I really loved the Joshua dalzelle's first trilogy on how Jackson Wolfe defeats the phage through his tactical genious, discipline and grit. This story line however seems to be a little less compelling. The darshik are not as compelling characters as the phage and they lack a definitive drive and purpose that the core mind of the phage possessed. These are minor points, however and I love the way this book is read and performed. looking forward to listening to more from this author.

Fun ride but don’t expect character growth

This half way through my binge run and I am enjoying the suspense, the fun of the ship battles, and the intrigue that is in the background. This is not high sci-if (Dune, Foundation) enjoyment but more just plain fun and more of an old school navy and grunt type story. In some ways reminiscent of some of the old collaborative books that came out in the 90’s like the Fleet series. ( if you know what that is! Lol) Just sit back and let the story take you in and have some fun with it.

Amazing

Second time listening to the series. I'm happy to have found it. I need 15 words apparently for this review. Nailed it.

Very good

I really like this narrator for these books. I really like the action of these books because there is no need for the romance most books think they need to sell. I prefer action where all are in the same boat doing what needs to be done without the need for side stories.

Book 2…. Another well done

I’ve enjoyed this book 2, too. The characters are developing even more and audio performances were great.

The story I felt diverged a bit more, in a good way. And nicely came back together for the ending.

Book 3 starting later today.

Another great story

This whole black fleet saga is just awesome. Books 1 and 2 in this trilogy should really have been a single book. Still very enjoyable though and a great listen. Just maybe not as strong as some of the other books in the larger series.
