About this listen

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College–Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits–and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year.

Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College–and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

I thought I'd never be interested to read fiction and fantasy novel, but turns out i really enjoyed this serie so far and i am very impatient for part 2 to be release in july.

I also think the dramatize version of this audio book makes it more enjoyable and easy to follow since the different voices helps with keeping track of the different characters. The fight scenes feel so much more epic and moving than a regular audio book.

my first fantasy novel.

I friggin love the cast and the performances of the actors. Kudos to the production team and the director as well. I already pre-ordered part 2. What am I goin to do with my life while waiting?

I NEED PART 2 asap!

I love love love this series. This is my intro into fantasy. I refuse to listen to the regular audible, or read this- the graphic audio is TOOO GOOD. Xadens voice is so sexy and I want more of him. I’m literally in love with Xaden, just like violence.
I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Can’t wait for part 2!

great story with well timed spice that actually feels well earned as part of the story. It's been a while since I've been so excited that I'm impatient for the next one!

Great fantasy world, great interpersonal relationships, great conflict. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Fantastic read

I can get enough of the sound effects and perfect voices and intonation. This story becomes alive in a unique way that captured my attention throughout every second of it. I can't wait to listen to the next one!

Loved every second of it

I loved everything about the characters, development, and especially the plot twists featured in this novel. The voice acting is amazing, with phenomenal choices matching voices to characters.
My one dislike is a lack of inflection to their voices compared to the narrator of the regular audio book. Simple things like crying during emotional scenes, menacing undertones in others, and more shock. In feels like the actors were rushed to record at times and weren’t given time to truly play scenes out to perfect them.
However, it’s still an incredible listen, and I cannot recommend it enough! Easily has become my favourite series and book

Flawless storytelling and plot

Strictly reviewing the graphic audio as a re-read/listen, the book itself is 5 stars for me.
First critique: I was disappointed at how many paragraphs and portions of sentences were skipped while trying to do a tandem reread and listen before Onyx Storm. I felt a lot of the skipped portions were important to details or relationships in the story.
Second critique: while all of the narrators did do a great job, the ‘spicy’ scenes, specifically during any kissing ones, were so cringy the sounds took away from the story. Maybe just me, but sounds effects could easily be toned down quite a bit.
Overall the graphic audio was still a much better listening experience than the regular narrated version I started listening to Fourth Wing with. I dnf’d it about a quarter of the way in. Just couldn’t continue listening to that one.

Couple misses with graphic audio

This version of the audiobook is so beautiful. Was definitely worth listening to. I very much enjoyed this story and all its characters. All the voices were just as I would imagine them to be. Just perfect overall.

Dramatized Version is WORTH IT!!

So as a male who didn’t realize this was a romantic fantasy…who was intrigued by the story, and had to
Finish it instead of stop….its an excellent read, except the main character violet is an unstable emotional lunatic who has the emotional intelligence of a 7 year old. It’s still an amazing book.

Great story, the dramatization was a neat experience
