This book provides incredible insight into 1st century Judaism and how it relates to Christianity. It is integral to understanding the link between the Old and New Testaments and provides illumination for various events and persons in the New Testament. Brilliant.

My mistake. I thought this was going to be an academic analysis of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Instead, I found it to be based more on opinion and subjective. He asserts that the scrolls prove the Essenes were basically the first Christians, and connects passages in the scrolls to biblical passages. He does a lot of rattling off passages from the bible and connects Christian doctrine to information in the scrolls. Honestly, I got frustrated after a few chapters and started jumping ahead to see if I could get to more objective analysis. When I realized it was going to be more of the same, I gave up and stopped listening.

If you are a devout Christian who wants a book that will reinforce your belief system, this might be a good book for you. If you are looking for an academic analysis, this is not the book.
