Story
Every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder because they don't fit the stereotypical profile: they're not fast-talking, hyperactive, or inattentive, and they are not male. Sari Solden's groundbreaking study reveals that ADHD affects just as many women as men, and that the resulting depression, disorganization, anxiety, and underachievement are also symptoms of ADHD. Newly revised and updated to reflect the latest clinical research, the book explores treatment and counseling options and more.

Publisher's Summary
Sari Solden specializes in working with ADD adults and their partners. Her first book, Women with Attention Deficit Disorder, has sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide. Now, in Journeys Through ADDulthood, she takes a groundbreaking look at the emotional turmoil often precipitated by ADD and offers listeners roadmaps to richer, happier lives.
Living with ADD affects the development of one's view of self, especially for those not diagnosed until adulthood, after an entire childhood of feeling "different" without knowing why. There are no quick fixes - Solden takes a longer view of the challenges and sees living with ADD as an ongoing internal process. Journeys Through ADDulthood is a step-by-step guide through three stages, or journeys: toward understanding your brain and your primary symptoms; toward discovering your true identity and embracing your uniqueness; and toward learning to share your true self to connect with others.
Illuminating her points based on the real-life journeys of two men and two women, Solden offers self-help exercises at the end of each chapter to point the way around common roadblocks on the road to empowerment, self-fulfillment, and the realization of long-buried dreams and goals.

Excellent For Adults Seeking Growth Beyond Basics
WOW! Highly recommended for adults w/ ADHD who are looking for growth/improvement beyond just medication and organizational tools. After initial diagnosis and treatment of primary ADHD symptoms, many adults struggle with secondary challenges related to self esteem, self actualization, and interpersonal relationships. There are other books that serve as primers on ADHD, but this book offers something unique and powerful - a guide for those who have already sought some form of treatment, learned the basics, and want more. If you've hit a plateau in dealing w/ ADHD, this book is like rocket fuel for positive change.
Sari Solden sheds light on the complex, nuanced effects of ADHD. She provides wise insights on how to grow and thrive as a person, not just as a patient. This isn't a warm fuzzy self-help book, but I found it deeply encouraging and empowering. Solden's expertise and experience as a psychotherapist shine through in every chapter. The book has relatable stories that illustrate specific patterns, and meaningful analysis of post-treatment pitfalls. Throughout the book, there are clear suggestions on how to refine and reframe ADHD traits, and how to build a life that is balanced, enjoyable, and fulfilling. So glad to have this audiobook, especially since the paper version's been out of print for years. Fantastic book. Absolute game-changer.
