About this listen

With foreword by Daniel Radcliffe.

I heard the rustle again, too close and too real to ignore. I clutched the flashlight, stuck my head out of the mosquito net...and found myself face-to-face with a jaguar.

Four travellers meet in Bolivia and set off into the Amazon rainforest on an expedition to find a hidden tribe and explore places tourists only dream of seeing. But what begins as the adventure of a lifetime quickly becomes a struggle for survival when they get lost in the wilds of the jungle.

The group splits up after disagreements, and Yossi and his friend try to find their own way back without a guide. But when a terrible rafting accident separates them, Yossi is forced to survive for weeks alone in one of the most unpredictable environments on the planet.

Stranded without a knife, map or survival training, he must improvise shelter and forage for wild fruit to survive. As his skin begins to rot from his feet during raging storms and he loses all sense of direction, he wonders if he will make it back alive. It's a story of friendship and of the teachings of the forest, and a terrifying true account that you won't be able to put down.

It’s a strange and somewhat innocent survival story!
The great narration kept the story interesting.
Thanks

Good narration for a true story. I also watched the movie but the audible book is better.

Entertaining Story

This book is interesting to read and exciting. You will not feel bored. However, as a pretty experienced traveler, including to the Amazon, I cannot help but cringe repeatedly at the stupid decisions, male hubris, and utter arrogance of the characters. Any rare moment of relatability are totally shattered when I remember that I would never have set out on this journey in the first place. I am astonished utterly that the author has become a motivational speaker. He offers words of advice at the end and you would have to be completely deluded to ever think that this is a good person to take advice from. Decision after decision he fails to do the right or smart thing. He trusts people who are so obviously flawed and untrustworthy. He is also a total asshole to his friend and uses "the jungle" as an excuse. No sir, you are just an asshole. There is too much toxic masculinity for my liking but I could excuse it, given that it all happened in the 80s, if that very toxic masculinity and arrogance was not at the root of the complete and utter stupidity of most of the decisions made by both the author and his fellow travellers.

Also, if you are going to take a powerful hallucinogen for the fist time, I urge you NOT to do what he does. 1. Take a low dose your first time. 2. Don't take it while camping on a rocky cliff area.

Honestly his will to live and persevere is inspiring but his lack of logic, common sense, and ability to sense manipulation are astounding.

Still worth reading even if you are cringing at every bad idea along the way.

stupid decision after stupid decision
