Publisher's Summary

From the author of Mastered and Dominated comes the third Enforcers novel - the searing story of a woman who finds sanctuary in surrender....

He can't change who he is....

A horrific childhood has made Silas the man he is today: dangerous, distrustful, and demanding. He's lived in self-imposed solitude, convinced that no woman could ever accept his need for absolute control - in business and pleasure. That is, until a young violinist walks into one of his buildings and into his life.

She can't change what she wants....

Haley has been struggling to fulfill her father's dying wish: to attend a prestigious music school in New York City. But even working two jobs, she can't afford the tiniest of apartments. Seeing her hopeless and near tears, Silas vows to help and protect her, no matter the cost to himself. But when Haley meets his every demand with unwavering acceptance and love, he is overwhelmed by her goodness and gentle spirit. He knows that the dark stain on his soul can never be erased - and rather than risk destroying the most beautiful thing he's ever experienced, he knows he'll have to do the hardest thing he's ever had to face. Let her go. But he's totally unprepared for the lengths Haley will go to fight for his love and a future brighter than the sun....

SILAS WAS INTRIGUING FROM BOOK ONE

I just love a brotherhood of hot, bad ass, alphas who flourish in the world of crime.

We meet Silas in the first book. He's the enforcer and so dangerous that even the other brothers fear him. His past is dark and tragic; he's a hot muscular drool worthy dominant who values his privacy and lives a quite life. With the type of work Silas is involved in security is a priority. He owns a small apartment building in Manhattan that probably has the best security in town.

Lenore is a country girl from Mississippi who received a partial music scholarship to a school in Manhattan. She's been house sitting and now has to find a place of her own. Everywhere she goes the rent is too high. When she goes into the building Silas owns he sees her on the security monitors, that are in his apartment, he sees her goodness, her innocence, she reminds him of Evangalene from Book 1 & 2. So Silas instructs his manager to rent to Lenore the apartment next to his at a very cheap price. This is their story....

There is romance, action, suspense, detailed sex, and humor but this isn't an instalove/sex story. Silas watches Lenore, knows her schedule and routine (may sound like a creeper but he's not). He keeps a distance because he doesn't think he good enough for her and doesn't want to bring her into his world of crime and danger.

Maya Banks has created a brotherhood that you instantly like and become invested in.

Jeremy York gives an entertaining performance. It took a little while to get used to his female voice. She's feisty and snarky with a country accent. The country accent is lacking but I didn't take points away because I think the publisher should've had a female performer.

Absolutely worth a credit/$$. You can listen to this as a stand alone but you're missing out if you don't listen to Mastered, Book 1 and Dominated, Book 2.

Silas and Hayley.

Hayley is a violinist down on her luck when she loses everything she cares about. Then she crosses paths with Silas and her life takes a positive turn.....for a minute.

From the moment Silas saw Hayley he had to have her. Without her knowledge he manipulates a situation which puts her in his apartment building in the apartment next door to his. He secretely stays up all night listening to her play the violin and doesn't go to sleep until she's finished. She has invaded his life! He can't get her out of his mind and he doesn't like....but he does.

Hayley can't get the stranger next door out of her mind. He is terrifying and alluring at the same time. One night while walking home from work fate forces a meeting between the two that will change their lives forever.

It was a good book but I have to say that the narrator was awful. Unfortunately Silas didn't learn from the mistakes Drake made and lost his mind when he lost Hayley. Fortunately he apologizes as good as Drake and wins her back.

This felt like a series but I'm a little disappointed that this is the last book written. I would have liked to see at least one more book for Maddox.

Not her best

I wanted to love this novel. I loved the first two so much and loved Cylus' (not sure of the spelling) character so much, I wanted to see him find his HEA. I'm not sure if it was the writing, in it's self, of the narrator's interpretation of Haley's voice and inflections, but she came across as rather dorky. The story was completely predictable and didn't come across as true, at all. With the way that Cylus' character reacted to Drake's treatment of Evangeline, I was sorely disappointed that he repeated the behavior he identified as adhorant, in the last book. At my age, I certainly know that human nature of causes us to expect others to, "do as I say", rather then, " do as I do", but it came across as silly. I hope the next book has a different narrator, or at least, a different narrator doing any female voices, because this is not Jeremy York's strong suit; not at all. I also hope the next chapter follows a different plot pattern. If not, I am fairly sure I will give up on this series, which will be such a disappointment, because it started out so promising.

I want to love it!!

I loved the first 2 books of this series with only one issue and that being Jeremy York. I love the dude, don't get me wrong. He is an awesome narrator. I just don't feel like this should have been a male narrator or at least a male narrator with a better female voice since there is soooo much female talking.

But this book fell off the track in so many places for me. I didn't ever feel any kind of connection with either main characters and it was outright boring. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't even finish. And I hate that because I did love Mastered and Dominated so much. Every time Cylus would start talking and getting into his alpha, I would get excited... like "here we go! He's gonna go alpha!" Then one sentence would be said and he would go right back into insecurity and she would go right back into misunderstandings and it was annoying.

My opinion, skip this but for sure listen to book 1 & 2, even tho Jeremy York narrates those, the story line is so good it can't be ruined.

Best book in the series

Great story, full of action. non-stop! My favorite story in this series, not because of the sexual activities, but because of the passion felt.

Girl has some sass!

I loved Silas in Drake and Evangeline's story and glad he got his own. He's clearly a man of mystery and darkness. To say that he is damaged might be totally obvious, but his secrets are shocking and the fact that he survived it all with some humanity is amazing. His lifeline in the world he lives in is control, (Control with a capital C) and routine, regimented routine.

Hayley is sad and her grief is visible in her eyes. She seems do downtrodden, taking one more bad thing on top of the other. Her promise to her father is what keeps her going, but her will is fading. Just before giving up she walks into one more building; the right building to put her in Silas' line of sight, aligning their futures.

She is the perfect simplicity and softness to his complex and hardness. But he seems to have learned nothing from Drake's mistakes, despite his brothers' reminders. He makes many mistakes, hurting Hayley in the process. She seems so weak and battered, which is frustrating as a reader. But when the going gets tough, the girl finds her backbone and sass! I loved her attitude when she threw it on Silas!

Hayley can stand on her own, finding herself in danger multiple times, her strength coming to save her when it seems she might not have enough energy and fortitude left. And, oh, how she lets Silas have it for his mistakes!! Epic lashing.

The brothers pull together as always to protect the women and stand together. It's good to meet another brother and see the human side of Xander and Thane.

Great story mediocre voice

Where does Kept rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Love Maya Banks stories, but Jeremy York's voice made it difficult to follow. I had to get my Kindle to follow the story. Needed a much better reader, there was no narration, just some bloke reading.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Silas was my favourite character, he had more depth to him than Haley who was just a poor lost chick in New York; she would have been swallowed whole by the city.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration was flat and slow; sorry, just didn't move me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Silas told his past to Haley was the most dramatic part but was slowed down and choppy because of the narration.

Silas And Hayley's Story

This is an excellent book. The relationship evolution between the main characters is fascinating to watch as they run into many obstacles but eventually find their HEA. The Narration was great and very enjoyable. A 5 star all the way around. BRAVO!!!
