Publisher's Summary

Jesse risked everything to bring her mother and father home, but her life is far from back to normal. With her parents’ memories of their abduction gone, Jesse is no closer to finding answers, and the threat still looms over her family.

When the agency announces that a powerful fae artifact is missing, Jesse suspects it’s connected to her parents’ disappearance. Until the artifact is found, her family will never be safe. This job might be more than she can handle alone, but is she willing to accept help from the people who betrayed her from the one person she is trying hard to forget?

The only thing Jesse knows for sure is that the game is not over. The rules have changed, there are dangerous new players on the board, and the stakes are higher than ever. She’s always been smart and resourceful, but it might take the goddess herself to save Jesse from what comes next.

Bonus scene narrated by Zachary Webber.

Had Me at Hello!

I read this book so fast! Loved it even more then the first book. Fast, good plot, feisty female lead, well written. The narration was excellent and easy to listen to. I could listen to Zachery Webber read the most boring technical manual and be highly invested. Such a great male narrator. I highly recommend this novel!

Loved it! Great character development and the slooooooow burn! 🔥

I really like Jesse’s character, she is strong and balanced without being too dramatic or prideful. I like how her character grows throughout these books and how unique the different characters in this book are.
And the slow burn romance is fantastic!

This is a book with mature enough characters that I (26yr old)love listening to it but clean enough that I could give to my little sisters. No F-bombs or descriptive sex but enough action to keep things interesting 😏 love it!

Another good one

It’s great to have the follow up to last years book Pawn, it was exactly what I expected except for a few twists and turns. We get to see more of her parents and lore of the Fae and the boys again.
There is a part in chapter 14 where two audio tracks overlap and is a little disconcerting as it’s hard to make out what’s what if you haven’t read the books. It’s unfortunate and the only reason I gave it a dock on the stars.

An Amazing Story and Series. A Must Listen

I fell in love with Karen Lynch’s Relentless books and was sad when she finished up and said she was starting a new series, Pawn. Then I listened to Pawn and fell in love all over again with the wonderful characters and their amazing lives. I tell everyone I can about Karen’s writing. I keep hoping her stories will be discovered by the movie people. They are just as good as Twilight and the Harry Potter books. Can’t wait to listen to the third book in this series. The narrator(s) did an amazing job.
Absolutely priceless stories. I hope she keeps writing them for a long time.

You know, once you go fae. - Violet

I really like this series! It's one of the rare YA series that doesn't make me constantly wonder why I keep giving YA another chance. The young heroin isn't so helpless that she constantly has to be saved. (When she does get "saved" she is at least able to help fight.) Nor is she so powerful that the story is pointless. Where she isn't powerful in physical  strength, she uses her brain. She actually reads books too! Actual books!!!

Finally, a YA Herione who isn't a special snowflake. Her brain makes her unique. Why cant Fae glamour her? Because she wears a bracelet to protect herself. How does she catch a rogue without magic? Because she studies how to and finds a weakness. She gets bruised, hurt, and all without having 80 different very super special abilities like other fantasy leads. She reads and she knows stuff 🤣🤗

Another thing that I like is that this series could grow with the author. The characters and story could easily move into Adult or Urban Fantasy.

There is a lot of action scenes that are paced perfectly so book doesn't fill too full of any one thing.

Of course it is YA, so there's some of what is expected in this genre. You know there will be the teenage angst about liking a boy, some parental drama, and bad decision making just to prove a point.

Good writing makes this such an enjoyable read, despite being in the Young Adult category. The double plot twist in the end was 😈!!!

The narration is well done.

Can't wait for Queen!

Love the story, the author keeps surprising me with every page I turned! Even my husband got into it when I was listening to it out loud and made me restart it for him to get the full story. That has never happened before!!!

Karen has done it again!

This book is a great listen and continues Jessi's story well. I am a huge fan of Karen Lynch's books. Of course, this book left us with a cliffhanger, but she threw in a nice POV from Lucas. Make sure you read/listen to Pawn before this book. Enjoy every second. I know I will be listening again.

Awesome

I love this story and I was quick to jump on both the audible and paper version when they came out. I noticed there were a few audio bugs where future parts of the story overlapped the current but other than that I loved listening to it. Would highly recommend this series.
