Publisher's Summary

Kel has finally achieved her lifelong dream of being a knight. But it's not turning out as she imagined at all. She is torn between a duty she has sworn to uphold and a quest that she feels could turn the tide of war.

Unrelentingly realistic in its depiction of the horrors of war, Pierce provides exquisite details of the weaponry, topography, and culture of her world, and her control of a voluminous cast of characters is masterful.

My Favorite of the Quartet!

I have loved journeying with Kel through Protector of the Small and Lady Knight has cemented its place as my favorite.

I also enjoyed Bernedette as the narrator

Great Story, Slightly Better-than-Average Reader.

I love Tamora Pierce's works and Protector of the Small is actually my favorite series, but I found the performance by Bernadette Dunne a little distracting. From book to book the voices (namely Owen's) aren't consistent, and Ms. Dunne frequently puts the primary emphasis in a sentence on the wrong word, either changing the meaning of a sentence or removing it entirely. Specifically I can recall one sentence in either Page or Squire when she is listing the contents of Kel's travel pack given to her by her mysterious well-wisher; the written sentence is admittedly a little confusing in its comma usage, but the problem is when Ms. Dunne reads "...a hank of light, strong rope..." as "...a hank of light; strong rope.." changing the meaning from "a short length of sturdy, lightweight rope" to "a short length of light, and some strong rope," which is nonsensical. There are other examples of these strange malapropisms though I can't think of any more off the top of my head, but they do happen frequently enough to be distracting.

Loved it! Has a few mispronounced words and names

Great story, love Pierce 's stories based in Torttal. Narrator mispronounced a few things, but not too noticeable. If you like this series check out Tricksters Choice and Tricksters Queen; by far my absolute favorite books.

Great book

Love the book. Love all of Tamara's books. Don't like the performance person. Don't like the way she she has picked to read (voice) people in the books

Great story, terrific narrator

This is another great story in the Protector of the Small Quartet, and Bernadette Dunne is a fantastic narrator. I appreciate a YA book that is truly aimed at young readers. I'm also grateful that Tamora Pierce didn't add in more of the sexual situations that are in her other books - namely young teenagers having sex and eventually getting married while still under twenty. I look forward to reading the next in this series. As usual, Bernadette Dunne did a wonderful job with all the characters.

The Protector of the Small

My favorite series of all. I've read and listened to them several times now. I just adore Kel and all her friends and animals. Her humble attitude and her plain compassion. And the fact that she is just simply human with a fantastic fate. No bells and whistles needed. When I first got to her series, I was afraid it wouldn't be the same without magics and god touches. But she is amazing and there is just enough magic in the characters and animals around her to satisfy anyone! I aspire to be more like Kel!

The girl I wish I'd known when i was a girl.

Of all Tamora's protagonists thus far, Kel is the one i wish I'd read about when i was younger! The conclusion to this quartet was perfectly written and narrated.

Loved this series

I just wish they would have had the same voice actor who voices Numair in the wild magic series to voice him again! It was weird to hear him as a different person.
