À propos de cet audio

Romance. Revenge. Redemption.

On the verge of unseating a powerful incumbent, crusading congressional candidate Marcus Blanchard is framed for murder. As the final votes are counted, he’s discovered at the scene of a brutal election-night homicide—accused of killing the very woman hired to assassinate him.

Now, three powerful forces want him eliminated: A corrupt political boss driven by hatred, a violent drug lord protecting his empire, and a sitting congressman desperate to keep his seat. To survive, Marcus turns to the only man he can trust.

Edward Mead—brilliant but aging, and emotionally drained by his wife’s cancer battle—reluctantly steps back into the courtroom. Thrust into Cleveland’s explosive underworld, Mead collides with drug dealers, riots, and a city torn apart by poverty, race, and political greed.

With time running out and the streets erupting, the case becomes more than a trial—it’s a fight for truth, justice, and the soul of a city.

Lethal Ambition is a fast-paced legal thriller that blends the twist-filled mystery of Agatha Christie with the courtroom power of John Grisham. It’s a thought-provoking, emotionally charged ride that entertains—and makes you think.

This Michael Swiger book advances with a relentless pace. Swiger's vocabulary/prose is capable, his plotting is imaginative, and his description is punctilious (ie. incredibly detailed - down to wrinkles in clothing).
Less fortunately, his characters are strikingly cookie-cutter stereotypes of violent drug-dealers, unscrupulous lawyers, and self-serving politicians. It robs the otherwise thought-provoking story of depth.

As to presentation: Randy Streu turns in a creditable reading performance with respect to diction/timbre/cadence.. but his voice-acting is straight-up execrable and he betrays an "I am clearly reading a text sitting open in my lap" indifferent tone. Michael Swiger Publishing sound engineers - yes, this is self-published- further drop the ball when including double sentences (repeated by the narrator unhappy with his delivery or mispronouncing something). Did they even edit this recording?

Altogether, I give 'Lethal Ambition: An Edward Mead Legal Thriller, Book One' 4 stars out of 10. It was a "decent" distraction for a few quiet hours and hinted enough at Michael Swiger's skill to convince me to look for more from this author. If this leaves the 'Plus' menu, however, don't you dare spend a Credit.

[Note: Streu's decision to use Kermit The Frog's voice for the judge at trial is endlessly amusing]

A half day of my time I’ll never get back. Should be avoided. Glad it ended.
