Publisher's Summary

From NY Times and USA Today best-selling author Jana DeLeon, the second book in the Miss Fortune mystery series.

No one in Sinful liked Pansy Arceneaux, but who hated her enough to kill her?

When aspiring actress Pansy Arceneaux returns to Sinful, Louisiana, to head up the beauty pageant portion of the Summer Festival, CIA assassin Fortune Redding knows she's in for trouble. Her undercover identity as a former beauty queen makes Fortune the perfect choice to chair the event with Pansy, but Pansy's abrasive personality makes it impossible to get through a single rehearsal without a fight. When Pansy turns up dead, Fortune is the prime suspect.

Armed with only her wits and two conniving seniors referred to locally as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune launches an investigation to find the real killer before her cover is blown.

Second as good as the first!

What did you love best about Lethal Bayou Beauty?

The story was creative, well written and a good solid mystery.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Fortune, Idabel, and Gertie are always great. You also cannot forget Carter, Ally, and Walter for their contributions to the story.

Have you listened to any of Cassandra Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love listening to Cassandra Campbell. I loved the narration in the first book in the series. Many people say they could listen to her read the dictionary. I would have to agree.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The friendship that has developed between Idabel, Gertie and Fortune is especially interesting simply from the perspective of the dramatic age differences. However, the depth of the relationships and the fierce intensity with which they protect each other is very fun to see.

Any additional comments?

Though this book series is probably aimed at women, I have been so glad that I happened on it. I like spy stories, and being from the angle of a female spy in the CIA, seemed interesting, and now I am hooked. This is a great read for anyone who likes the genre. What I like most is the light-heartedness of these novels. The situations are real and dramatic, but there is always a little whimsy and comic relief. A very refreshing perspective vs. the dark and gritty.

Stealing the Show

While this series is about CIA agent Fortune hiding out in a small bayou town, senior citizens Ida Belle and Gertie steal the show. Lots of laughs along with a mystery!

Murder mystery with humor!

Fortune Redding is a former beauty queen and now an experienced and effective CIA assassin. The world's largest arms agent put a price on her head which many assassins are trying to collect. So the CIA effectively put her in a witness protection program in the very small town of Sinful, Louisiana. There she meets Ida Belle and Gertie the two leaders of the Sinful Ladies Society which runs the town. The two old ladies were espionage agents for the US during the Vietnam war. She also meets a possible love interest in Sheriff's Deputy Carter LeBlanc. Lethal Bayou Beauty is Book 2 in the Miss Fortune Mystery 10 novel series by Jana DeLeon.

For those familiar with the 4 novel Shaye Archer series by Ms. DeLeon, be aware that while the Shaye Archer series is a serious suspense mystery series the Miss Fortune series is a clever, light, and funny murder mystery series. The murder mysteries are real and worthwhile, but humor is the over riding theme. Miss Fortune plots likely cannot be classified as cozy mysteries, but they are close. The closest comparison I can think of is the marvelous Shelby Nichols Adventures series by Colleen Helme. In any case I immensely enjoy the Miss Fortune series and highly recommend it. Cassandra Campbell narrates the series very nicely indeed.

Good cozy with great humor

I came across the Miss Fortune series and decided to take a chance with book one. The minute I finished that one, I purchased book two. There is something so engaging and laugh out loud funny about a young female CIA assassin hiding out in a small Louisiana town and falling in with the local senior ladies. Ms. Campbell does a great job with the narration and just adds to the pleasure. It's witty, it's touching, the mystery is entertaining and you will love the characters.

The same as before - Enjoyable

This one too is hilarious. Fortune is evil ass and being run crazy by the Geritol Mafia. Her adventures are hampered by refraining from using deadly force and keeping low key. In this book it proves a little more difficult because the high school bitch is back and everyone has a reason to kill her.

So you would assume everyone is a suspect because of course the bitch has offended everyone. Yet, why is Fortune the suspect? Well it is her story of course. She is not 007 nor is she Stephanie Plum. She is a delightful mix exactly in the middle.

This is a small town which never had a murder until Fortune can to stay. Jana DeLeon does an excellent job giving us an interesting story while not bogging us down with the detail in a Lucas Davenport, the main character in a John Standford book, novel ‘
A good read with just enough body to keep you interested.

Good story don't love narration of main character

Story is a good, straightforward mystery with lots of comedy.

However, while I love the narration of each of the supporting characters, the narration of the main character is grating--awkward, up-talking cadence that doesn't at all fit a trained, Tom-boy assassin and is annoying to boot.

I want to continue the series, but not sure I can handle anymore.
