Publisher's Summary
Striking a perfect balance between heartfelt emotions and spot-on humor, this debut features a pop-culture enthusiast protagonist with an unforgettable voice sure to resonate with listeners.
Alice had her whole summer planned. Nonstop all-you-can-eat buffets while marathoning her favorite TV shows (best friends totally included) with the smallest dash of adulting - working at the library to pay her share of the rent. The only thing missing from her perfect plan? Her girlfriend (who ended things when Alice confessed she's asexual).
Alice is done with dating - no thank you, do not pass go, stick a fork in her, done. But then Alice meets Takumi and she can't stop thinking about him or the rom com-grade romance feels she did not ask for (uncertainty, butterflies, and swoons, oh my!).
When her blissful summer takes an unexpected turn and Takumi becomes her knight with a shiny library-employee badge (close enough), Alice has to decide if she's willing to risk their friendship for a love that might not be reciprocated - or understood.

A PSA in a novel
This was another case where the superb narration elevated a simple story. The audio combined with the honest portrayal of asexuality suffice to make it a good listen. I didn't find the writing style or dialogue very interesting, but liked Alice and felt her pain vividly throughout. I wanted a bit more from the secondary characters. Ryan is angelic and Feenie is fascinating but also a manipulative and troubling friend. The plot works for what it is. There isn't much subtlety and there is a lot of info-dumping about the Romo-Ace experience. I would recommend the book as an educational resource more than as a narrative.

good ya/na story
Lovely story about a queer black girl. It felt more like a 4 than a 5 but there was so much I look for in a novel it deserved it. Alice frustrated me as a main character most times. She was a black legacy, but since she’s a gen-z she never really felt the need to know what she wanted to do with herself. I know she was under a lot of pressure it’s just, like any privileged person she didn’t understand how good she had it XD
I’m not ace, which she was and I hadn’t realized she’d been intimate before her story began. I imagine it’s extremely difficult to be ace when most people are allo; She read like a intimacy repulsed ace person, which made it hard to root for her and akumi(her love interest) and their future since they both made it clear where they stood on things.
Her lack of communication was the most frustrating about it and she eventually corrected that about herself but the story insinuated ace people don’t have urges despite the fact they don’t desire intercourse. This is Alice’s story so I imagine it will resonate with someone, but her selfishness and ability to only care about herself, especially when it came to her parents and friends concerns were super frustrating.
It does also read like a new adult book even though I know ya can extend to first year of college(she was a sophomore) and even though it had a strong ya feel, all the characters are 19 or older.
Overall a good story.

So cute and swoon worthy!
I absolutely loved this book! The characters are wonderful and really fleshed out - you really feel like you know each and every one in the book. I loved a romantic comedy with an asexual WoC as the main character - I also really loved that it featured a Japanese man as the romantic interest as that is sadly underrepresented in romance fiction in general. I swooned while reading this book! Adenrele Ojo is PERFECT for this narration job, too. I couldn't imagine anyone else doing such a great job at bringing the story to life. 5/5 from me and definitely worth adding to your Audible library! I'm glad I couldn't stand to wait for a copy from my library (50+ person wait list, no thanks!) because it's worth reading right away!

It wasn't my norm, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I loved Alice, but I didn't like how she let her family control her. I also didn't like how Feeni tried to make her feel bad for doing something she always does to her (Alice).
I really enjoyed her and Takumi together. she opened up and blossomed so much with him. You love to see it!

Cute
I thought this was relatable as someone whose on the acespec. I did think some of the metaphors were incredibly cheesy! A lot of her ace fears were very grounded and real. I really like the first chapter between her girlfriends reaction - very dramatic- is how quite a few people respond to being ace.

So, so boring
This book was unbearably dull. the characters spent half of the book lying on a couch and the other half in lame conversations.

Not What I Expected However...
Been looking for a story book about asexuality and I have to admit, Takumi's character at the end was not what I expected it to be to as far as accepting an asexual relationship, but it was definitely more realistic and I appreciate that. I absolutely recommend this book not only for people who want to understand asexuality, but for asexuals who want to understand others not like them.

Takumi ruined the book for me
I loved everything (except for one thing) despite the fact that I was sometimes confused at the information even though I was supposed to already know the information.
The one thing I didn't like about the book was Takumi. He was too perfect and overly judgemental when it came to food and how she ate and it just made me uncomfortable so I DNF'd it about 35 percent in.

A-plus Representation and so fun!
As a Black asexual woman who loves love, this was such a wonderful story to listen to! I highly recommend. I feel seen, I enjoyed the journey, and I loved how true to life it all felt. This is the exact representation I didn’t even know I needed and it was written so beautifully. My heart was so happy listening to it!
