About this listen

'Deeply empathetic and profoundly unsettling, this is contemporary crime fiction at its finest' - Dinuka McKenzie

Corinne Gray is a woman whose life is falling apart. When probationary detective Kyle Nazarian unexpectedly knocks on her door on a rainy morning, she knows why. He wants to talk about her son, Ben. This is her chance to finally explain how her sweet-natured child – who loved history and dreamed of swimming for Olympic Gold – grew up to do the unthinkable. What really happened to Ben? And could anyone have prevented it?

Desperate for justice, Corinne has poured herself into uncovering the sinister figures behind her son's actions and the shadowy online communities that prey on vulnerable young people. Kyle, meanwhile, is grappling with his own personal crisis both at home and at work. Torn between his duties and a growing sympathy for Corinne, Kyle must decide how far he's willing to go to help her.

We Need to Talk About Kevin meets None of This Is True in this shattering and provocative psychological thriller that dives into the darkest corners of the internet and the powerful bonds between parents and children, from the bestselling author of Dark Mode.

Enjoyable listen while I work. Not the best and not the worst I've ever listened to. Narration is great.

It's seems very YA but it's good

(From a Gen X Woman)
THIS was a stunning read - giving voice to the Broken Boys of this era and revealing SO many unresolved and under reported impacts of social media, legacy media and messed up educational institutions these days where an assault on “straight, white males” is happening at an alarming rate.
So much vitriol and outright hatred for our own boys: brothers, sons and fathers.

Boys ARE being vilified. Masculinity IS being called toxic - and so few are really speaking up for true males - in a rational or compassionate manner these days.
It’s no wonder voices like Andrew Tate are becoming so popular, since they have plenty of evidence to call out women and to exploit their over-the-top “baller” lifestyle to desperate boys looking for guidance in a hyper feminized society.

Also wow - hunting at the Armenian Genocide. Brilliant. I hope to see more stories like this - that weave hard to swallow truths into the writing.

Well done on ALL levels.

STELLAR. Spot On Story.

I love the way the author wove all the themes together in a cohesive and gripping manner. I’m usually anxious about reading books that are so close to reality but this was done so beautifully I wish I could experience it all over again

Perfectly Done!

Picked this title from the Audible Plus Catalogue and so glad I did. Been an Audible member since 2011 and I think this is a top 10 for me. Excellent suspenseful writing and a brilliant performance

Could not stop listening!

I really enjoyed this book, the performances were excellent, and the story concept is unique. The inside perspective of a mind falling into a dark place was well done.

An outside the box story

I really enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and the story. I think it’s great to have this side of the story. I loved that we sorta got an idea of why someone would do something so wrong.. an excellent narration too. I was captivated by this story.

Great thriller!

Compelling drama beautifully written and impeccably performed; a contemporary thriller filled with unexpected twists that held my attention from beginning to end. The use of so many highly skilled multiple narrators raise the quality of the listening experience tenfold. Strongly recommend.

Riveting!

It was an interesting listen, though it felt like it was written by a highschooler at times.
I didn't care for the prologue in which the author speaks to her views on the role of her cultural background and on male roles in society. That by itself lost a star rating for me.

An Interesting Listen
