Publisher's Summary

Elizabeth Moon is back with the fourth adventure in her best-selling fantasy epic. Moon brilliantly weaves a colorful tapestry of action, betrayal, love, and magic set in a richly imagined world that stands alongside those of such fantasy masters as George R. R. Martin and Robin Hobb.

The unthinkable has occurred in the kingdom of Lyonya. The queen of the Elves - known as the Lady - is dead, murdered by former elves twisted by dark powers. Now the Lady’s half-elven grandson must heal the mistrust between elf and human before their enemies strike again. Yet as he struggles to make ready for an attack, an even greater threat looms across the Eight Kingdoms.Throughout the north, magic is reappearing after centuries of absence, emerging without warning in family after family - rich and poor alike. In some areas, the religious strictures against magery remain in place, and fanatical followers are stamping out magery by killing whoever displays the merest sign of it - even children. And as unrest spreads, one very determined traitor works to undo any effort at peace - no matter how many lives it costs. With the future hanging in the balance, it is only the dedication of a few resolute heroes who can turn the tides...if they can survive.

Great book but VERY VERY poor choice in reader.

If you are going to be voicing an audio book, specifically anything science fiction or fantasy related, I would assume that the first thing the voice actor would do is find out proper pronunciations of names and places. To keep hearing the word "Taig" which in former books pronounced 'Tayg' instead being pronounced as 'Towg'. It took me several seconds to figure out what city the reader was referring to.

Luckily, I am a fan of this book series, otherwise I would not finished listening to it. This reader was actually much worse than a previous reader in the series.
I highly doubt I will buy anything voiced by thus person again.

Change of narrator

Listening to the world Elizabeth Moon has created is like visiting old friends. I really enjoy these stories and the characters. My problem is with the narrator. It normally doesn't bother me when series change narrators, but I wish they would keep the pronunciation of names of people and places the same. That is something the director or post production should have caught. I think the narrator did a great job with all the voices

Good book

I really like this book series. I've always loved them and have them in paperback and on Audible. I'm fortunately though, the narrator of this particular book in the series does not do that wonderful of a job with pronouncing people's names. A lot of simple mistakes are made throughout the series with it's a different readers but this one seems to bother me more than others

Appalling Narration

I have listened to hundreds of audio books and this is the first and only narrator I have completely disliked. I really struggled to make it through the entire book - Ms. Dawe’s voice is irritating, her accent is inconsistent, her decision to completely ignore the previous six books pronunciation standards incomprehensible and her dramatization of individual character’s “voices” nonsensical. In short I would not care how much I wanted to listen to another book if she was narrator!

Great Story, Poor Narrator

with no less than six previous performance to draw on, mispronounced so many things. Painful to listen too.
