©1994 R. Talsorian Games, Inc. (P)2021 Last Word AudioListen up, you primitive screwheads! is a straightforward collection of essays that is just as applicable to your average referee for cyberpunk as it is the players they try to wrangle. The book is a combination of advice, creative writing instructions, general tips, tricks and rules. If you ever wanted to write or run something in Cyberpunk 2020, CP:Red, Shadowrun or a system of your choice with a dark future vibe this will give you tools galore. It might even make you a better writer for the genre.
The quality of narration is the first thing to really note. I have never enjoyed somebody ready stats or charts before and it should be called out for the way in which Colby Elliot does it. He even cuts to sidebars in a natural and not jarring way. Each section has a good break and each chapter covers a certain subject or theme. The layout of audiobook chapters means you can hop to whatever theme you want maybe to prep for a session or another to deal with a problem player.
The whole book can be listened to beginning to end and with the exception of the forward and the appendix it is a good listen. I can't recommend it enough for prospective Fixers and street toughs, Referees or players. My only concern is the low visibility for such a delightful, niche-sounding book to reach a wider audience.
Useful for Cyberpunk, D&D or a creative writing
