The story of Jack Crabbe, raised by both a white man and a Cheyenne chief. As a Cheyenne, Jack ate dog, had four wives, and saw his people butchered by General Custer's soldiers. As a white man, he participated in the slaughter of the buffalo and tangled with Wyatt Earp.

I had only seen the movie before this. What a great book! I highly recommend. You really need an open mind for this one.

You may be familiar with the movie, and thought it brilliant. You're right - it's excellent. But this is better.

As always happens, the book has hours and hours of time to expand on the characters, and so has depth the movie can't hope to match. Plus the "movie in your head" has great casting, locations, and special effects. But this is a big ol' step above what remains one of my favourite movies of all time. Jack Crabb has been there, done that, met them, and lost and gained lifetimes of experiences.

Well worth your time. It breaks my heart to see it here in the "freebie ghetto". It deserves wider readership.

excellent story, great narration . I was guided by a Crow Indian at Little Big Horn, his telling of the events are very very similar to this book.
