Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Story
Seven years ago, six-year-old Maisie Earnshaw was found facedown in a duck pond, her body mutilated. Isabel - at age 14, found covered in Maisie's blood - was convicted of murder. As Leah spends time with Isabel, she comes to know her as a young woman with a sweet, gentle nature, someone she could never see as a murderer. Leah begins to suspect members of the Fielding family of framing Isabel as a young girl, and she's not the only one. True crime blogger James Gorden thinks Isabel is innocent, too.

Story
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

When the actress cast to play Leah is found murdered, she’s proven right in the grisliest of ways. It seems like a straightforward case: the deadliest ever female serial killer escaped prison a few hours before the murder. But Leah’s son Tom is first on the scene and Seb, Leah’s boyfriend, isn’t convinced by Tom’s innocent act. Even Leah must admit she doesn’t really know her son after he disappeared for months without contact.

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Publisher's Summary
"Take my hand, little one."
Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd.
After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?
Fran's husband warns her not to get too close, but one morning, Esther and her family disappear. Where did they go? Why did they leave their furniture behind?
Fran knows in her gut that something terrible is going to happen to that child, and she can't stand by while it happens. No matter the cost.
After all, she found her. But can she save her?

Picks up more towards the end
The beginning is a tad slow in my opinion, but closer to the middle it’s a good story, that slowly takes you to where its trying to go. With what at first seems like a cliche explanation of the story’s mysteriousness …. It later takes a interesting turn, with a surprise twist, and wraps it all up nicely at the end. It’s a good listen.

DISAPPOINTING
This book was more of a memoir than a mystery. An apt title could have been "Fran's Obsession". From the begining I couldn't understand her motives, however, the end of the book explained it. All in all the whole book was too far fetched for me to believe the plot, more like a bad dream Fran was having.

Somewhat implausible
Esther as a 7 year old would not have had the maturity to behave as portrayed and it is totally unbelievable that a woman would arbitrarily uproot herself and travel to the wilds of Arizona to search for this adult woman and child I found this ultimately far fetched but will say that the narrator did an excellent job.

Fizzled 3/4 of way in
This book started out very well. I liked the characters, and was enjoying the story. However, after the first half of the book, the story started to fizzle out. It became a chore to listen to it.
In merry old England we have the inhabitants of a small town where everyone knows everyone. Out of the blue, a young couple move in the neighbourhood. They have a little girl. The talk of the town of course focuses on 'Who are they, and what are they doing here?' When it's discovered that they are (GASP) Americans, one of their new neighbours becomes obsessed in finding out more.
Just to insert this quickly- the narrator tried her best at an American accent but truly failed miserably. My goodness. It was bad.
The young couple and their daughter live a very simple lifestyle and it's assumed they are Mennonite or Amish. However, when they disappear in the middle of the night, one nosey neighbour goes on a quest to find out where they've gone and why they've left.
This is the point where the story gets.. well... just stupid.
Disappointing..

Beware -Very Triggering
Fran is a thoroughly enjoyable character, you really feel for her. This book has the ability to evoke very painful emotions. If you’ve ever struggled with infertility, pregnancy loss, or infant loss, beware this will be very triggering. Otherwise I enjoyed the mystery and it was a great performance and a great story.

Good Story-The TWIST=EHHHH!
Overall the story kept my interest. I loved the reader's British Accent, however her Southern Twang was comical, to say the least! There was a very unexpected twist towards the end that made me rewind to be sure I heard, correctly! I even thought Fran was having a bad dream. But, NOPE! This particular twist was a little too far fetch and silly! I would recommend this book, if you have 9 hours to kill. I mean, it does keep your interest!!!!!

Good not great
While the performance by the narrator was nothing short of amazing the story is okay. She did so well with the American accents. The plot was interesting but I wouldn’t say this has been my favorite story by the author. There just wasn’t enough suspense for me and wasn’t much of a thriller but I enjoyed while it lasted. Toward the mid end I just wanted to get it over with and move on to the next book. I’m short , it was just okay.
