Publisher's Summary

Fifty-five years ago, Helen L. Taylor took John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and simplified the vocabulary and concepts for young listeners while keeping the storyline intact. The result was a classic in itself, which has now sold over 600,000 copies.

It's both a simple adventure story and a profound allegory of the Christian journey through life, a delightful listen with a message kids ages six to 12 can understand and remember. A new look for today's children enlivens the journey to the Celestial City.

excellent

loved it! my 8 year old really enjoyed it and it took a bit longer for my 6 year old to get into it but by the end he liked it. the storytelling was so good and I love how the author slightly changes things so that it is slightly easier to understand for parents and kids alike.

Faithful Retelling of Pilgrim's Progress for Kids

My five year old loves this story and asks for it all the time. It's a fairly faithful retelling of Pilgrim's Progress but with children instead of adults as the main characters.

There are definitely some mature moments, as several travelers are killed, beaten or imprisoned at different points. However, this is dealt with in a matter of fact way and not gratuitously, and my daughter didn't seem phased by it (though I found it challenging).

She picked up on the symbolism pretty quickly and it was a good way to talk about various concepts like death in a non-threatening way.

The reading is well done and suits the tone of the book. I've enjoyed listening to it with her. I would recommend previewing it as a parent before introducing it to your child.

A bit scary ...

I think you should be at least 9 to read this book... but I'm 8 and I read this, but still, it's scary. That's why I say to read it when your 9.

Listened to while on the tractor, great rendition!

Spent the day doing tractor work and paused it for breakfast and lunch picked right back where it left off. Great performance by the narrator, enjoyable story that was valuable for a very meaningful family discussion about the battle over Giant Self. Jahova is King! in Jesus name!

Excellent!

The narrator is so pleasant to listen to. Written for kids, but inspired me as an adult. So thought provoking. The story lends itself to ample conversation and is filled with rich vocabulary. We fell in love with it so much that we bought the paperback book and saw that there is an adventure guide to go along with it that I wish I would of used while we read it.

Joyful Read aloud

I originally downloaded this book with hopes that my kids would enjoy the story and characters. I knew there would be opportunities for conversation, but there have been more organic conversations and recalling occurring on my Childrens’ doing. I am thankful for this version, which is easier for youth. My kids are under 6, but it was perfect for my 5 and 6 year old. I foresee us listening again in a few years. I was greatly encouraged by the stories and how it greatly portrays our Savior’s characteristics. The metaphors are outstanding.

Finally, the narrator was FANTASTIC. He was easy to follow and very clear.
