About this listen

Fifty-five years ago, Helen L. Taylor took John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and simplified the vocabulary and concepts for young listeners while keeping the storyline intact. The result was a classic in itself, which has now sold over 600,000 copies.

It's both a simple adventure story and a profound allegory of the Christian journey through life, a delightful listen with a message kids ages six to 12 can understand and remember. A new look for today's children enlivens the journey to the Celestial City.

My kids and I loved it! We've listened to it three times so far. I'm re-starting for the 4th time.

My five year old loves this story and asks for it all the time. It's a fairly faithful retelling of Pilgrim's Progress but with children instead of adults as the main characters.

There are definitely some mature moments, as several travelers are killed, beaten or imprisoned at different points. However, this is dealt with in a matter of fact way and not gratuitously, and my daughter didn't seem phased by it (though I found it challenging).

She picked up on the symbolism pretty quickly and it was a good way to talk about various concepts like death in a non-threatening way.

The reading is well done and suits the tone of the book. I've enjoyed listening to it with her. I would recommend previewing it as a parent before introducing it to your child.

loved it! my 8 year old really enjoyed it and it took a bit longer for my 6 year old to get into it but by the end he liked it. the storytelling was so good and I love how the author slightly changes things so that it is slightly easier to understand for parents and kids alike.

excellent

I think our family enjoyed this more than the original. The language and story telling from a kids perceptive was actually amazing for an adult new believer. Will be a repeat listen likely!

Little Pilgrims Progress is one of our favourite books to read so we were excited for the audiobook.

One negative is that it should say the narrow gate that Little Christian is going to and it sounds like the narrator is saying the wicked gate. My 8yr old noticed it first as she was following along in the actual book
