About this listen

Don't miss this shocking psychological thriller by best-selling author J.A. Baker

Missing without trace...

When local woman Deborah goes missing, her colleagues Adrian, Yvonne and Merriel are all left in shock. Gossip around the office begins to swirl – what could have happened to Deborah? Is she dead or alive? And who could be responsible for her disappearance?

Everyone is terrified that they could be next…except the one person who has all the answers. The last person people expect.

Because Deborah is being held captive by a monster, a psychopath. But not a stranger… it’s someone she knows all too well…

Perfect for fans of Sue Watson, Valerie Keogh and K.L. Slater.

What the critics say

"Superbly written with a cast of crazy characters who will make you look differently at your co-workers from now on." (Valerie Keogh, bestselling author)

All stars
Most Relevant
J.A. Baker offers a tale following the abduction & imprisonment of a pair of young women - written capably with an excellent feel for building tension. Unfortunately, every storyline contributing to the overall plot strains credulity. It takes a huge effort to accept any of these characters and events as even remotely plausible.

As to presentaton: The full-cast performance of the audiobook is easily the best feature of this product. Gareth Bennel-Ryan, Colleen Pendergast, Hannah Kelly-Turner, and Imogen Church take advantage of exemplary technical support from Boldwood Books sound engineers to provide an outstanding interpretation of the author's efforts. True, a couple of readers sometimes sound as though they are reading from a book sitting open on their laps.. but choose this iteration if given the choice between the recording or a text (paper or eBook) version.

In toto, 'Local Girl Missing' rates 5 stars out of 10. If you manage to set aside logic, it's a serviceable 'Plus' option.. but spend your Credit elsewhere should they ask for one.

This was a very unusual book for me. I loved the story, the suspense and the delivery. Beautiful narration by every voice except one that was a bit of a slow and mundane creepy like tone .
Fantastic story and it will keep you guessing. I thought several times I knew who the bad guy was but so many times I was wrong. Suspenseful and I loved it. A very shocking ending as well. Did not see that coming.
I did not give 5 starts because I found it had too many descriptions and going over and over the past and every character last . It was a bit tiring so that I kept fast forwarding a few parts.
However, this book was enjoyable and thrilling to the end. I happily recommend it. Thank you Audible Plus.

Great Listen great suspense !!!!

The plot, which initially was intriguing, became tiresome and boring quite quickly. Perhaps one of the dullest “mysteries” I’ve yet to read/hear. I remained with the story to the end having one, purchased the book, and two, am in the habit of finishing the books I choose to read. I don’t remember what attracted me to this book but I won’t be reading any future writing by this author.

Underdeveloped characters with limited and repetitive dialogue.
