A serial killer is on the loose in San Diego, and he has a most unusual M.O.: with each kill, he leaves behind objects with unclear meanings. Most of the recent killings are centered near Kendra Michaels' home and office, so it comes as no great surprise when the FBI shows up at her door.
The investigators soon make a startling discovery: the left-behind objects are actually souvenirs of other unsolved serial murder cases in various US cities. And the new cases feature "holdback" characteristics of the other murders unknown to the general public. Kendra realizes that the killer has come to challenge and taunt her.
The investigators become his newest targets, even as Kendra slowly begins to suspect that one of them may be the killer himself. She must find the killer as the body count rises, and to do so she relies on her own "dream team" of agent-for-hire Adam Lynch and private investigator Jessie Mercado. They must risk everything to defeat a psychopath whose terrifying plan is years in the making.

This should be a movie!
This is a great suspense triller, just could not stop from one chapter after another ⭐️ the narrator was very expressive in helping with the suspense. Loved it!

The writer doesn’t give the reader enough credit, everything is spelled out, felt spoon fed, no nuance.

Great!
This was my first exposure to these authors. I really enjoy it the book and I love the characters. Elizabeth Rogers is a fantastic narrator. She brings so much life to books.

suspenseful enough to keep you reading all night
As a long time Iris Johansen reader, I was extremely happy when she decided to co-author with her son. Their writing keeps you on the edge of your seat, and reading far into the night.
Can't say enough about the pairing of Kendra with Adam Lynch, and then to add in Jesse and the FBI, to solve all these serial killer thrillers, can't wait for the next instalment.

Disappointed
Characters, dialogue and story made the impression they were teenagers in a bad thriller movie.
Narrator did not help change this impression. No depth and all male characters sounds as in a constant state of annoyance.

It’s ok
The way the FBI characters are written-as if they have zero idea what they are doing and rely solely on the main character -is kind of disappointing. Takes the reality out of what a consultant actually does. Kind of lost me at the unrealistic portrayal of what her importance would really be.

Just Right. Steady intrigue. Steady storyline!
Really enjoyed steady pace of all aspects with an ending with a twist however not reading 3/4 of the book leading up to the usual dramatic ending. Soothing read kept each chapter involved in build of the book. Going to search for other books by her or them for my next selection right now.

Not sure why there are so many good reviews
The narration was so lame. Other female narrators are able to evoke male voices without sounding like cartoons. The writing had promise initially but the ending was so cheesy. Had to listen at 1.5 to get through it.

Slow moving and boring
Unimpressed. Long, boring, and so very slow. Found myself getting lost in the story because it was so dry. Performance was fine but story was lacking.
