Publisher's Summary

From the leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party - Jagmeet Singh - comes a personal and heartfelt story about family and overcoming adversity.

In October 2017, Jagmeet Singh was elected as the first visible minority to lead a major federal political party in Canada. The historic milestone was celebrated across the nation.

About a month earlier, in the lead-up to his election, Jagmeet held community meet and greets across Canada. At one such event, a disruptive heckler in the crowd hurled accusations at him. Jagmeet responded by calmly calling for all Canadians to act with “love and courage” in the face of hate. That response immediately went viral, and people across the country began asking, “Who is Jagmeet Singh? And why ‘love and courage’?”

This personal and heartfelt memoir is Jagmeet’s answer to that question. In it, we are invited to walk with him through childhood to adulthood as he learns powerful, moving, and sometimes traumatic lessons about hardship, addiction, and the impact of not belonging. We meet his strong family, including his mother, who teaches him that “we are all one; we are all connected”, a valuable lesson that has shaped who he is today.

This story is not a political memoir. This is a story of family, love, and courage and how strengthening the connection between us all is the way to building a better world.

The title says it all - couldn't stop listening!

Although written simply, the recollections of childhood are perhaps best articulated this way, I was captivated and inspired. It is not just overcoming adversity, it is a baring of Jagmeet's soul. And much as I admired him and felt drawn to him as a leader prior to reading this, my respect and yes, LOVE for this man grew exponentially as I listened. His love and his courage are transferred to the listener by this audiobook. And the narrator is perfect.

A universal message of love.

Absolutely loved this book. It was heartbreaking and hopeful. It really shows that we are all one and that our struggles and humanity are united when we get to the heart of it. I would recommend this book regardless of political stance, as his message is universal. I cannot wait to see what the Author Jagmeet is able to accomplish in the years to come.

Surprising

Incredibly honest and detailed memories of childhood. The audio book is over 4 hours in and Jagmeet hasn't finished high school yet. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It is a very descriptive in-depth insight into the moods and experiences of Jagmeet's individual childhood, but definitely not what I expected, especially some of the intimate/traumatic revelations. Perhaps too much detail, not only of perhaps troubling descriptions but of all the everyday movements.

Is the character one achieves after coming out of childhood the important thing to know, or, are all the details of what one experienced while developing of added benefit to know. I suppose I won't suspect The Honourable Mr Singh of speaking untruthfully in parliament after his ability to be so vulnerable and honest in this book.

mmmm.....I will add more to this review later.
