Publisher's Summary
Georgie and Darcy are finally on their honeymoon in Kenya's Happy Valley, but murder crashes the party in this all-new installment in the New York Times best-selling series.
I was so excited when Darcy announced out of the blue that we were flying to Kenya for our extended honeymoon. Now that we are here, I suspect he has actually been sent to fulfill another secret mission. I am trying very hard not to pick a fight about it, because after all, we are in paradise! Darcy finally confides that there have been robberies in London and Paris. It seems the thief was a member of the aristocracy and may have fled to Kenya. Since we are staying in the Happy Valley - the center of upper-class English life - we are well positioned to hunt for clues and ferret out possible suspects.
Now that I am a sophisticated married woman, I am doing my best to sound like one. But crikey! These aristocrats are a thoroughly loathsome sort enjoying a completely decadent lifestyle filled with wild parties and rampant infidelity. And one of the leading lights in the community, Lord Cheriton, has the nerve to make a play for me. While I am on my honeymoon! Of course, I put an end to that right off.
When he is found bloodied and lifeless along a lonely stretch of road, it appears he fell victim to a lion. But it seems that the Happy Valley community wants to close the case a bit too quickly. Darcy and I soon discover that there is much more than a simple robbery and an animal attack to contend with here in Kenya. Nearly everyone has a motive to want Lord Cheriton dead and some will go to great lengths to silence anyone who asks too many questions. The hunt is on! I just hope I can survive my honeymoon long enough to catch a killer....

Definitely not up to Rhys's usual standard!
This whole novel sounds rushed and poorly planned out. And all the characters were so one note that they all ran together in my head.
So re-read the earlier books and wait for the next one ... don't bother with this one.

Enjoyable, but not my fave
I love the Royal Spyness series, but this definitely wasn't my favorite installment. The set up for the mystery seemed very long, and the big reveal of the killer felt kind of anticlimactic.
The narration is really well done, Jasmine Blackborow, is doing a pretty good job replacing Katherine Kelgren.
Overall, it was an enjoyable audiobook experience, but I don't think I'll be relistening any time soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed this last book in the series. The story line was very interesting and the characters well developed. The narration was very good. I highly recommend these books and look forward to the next instalment.

Not Georgie's Finest
Oh this is not the easiest review to write. Because I am a lover of the series. I have listened to the books more times than I can count. They have been on repetition for about 4 years. Yes that has always been thanks to the wonderful narration of Katherine Kellgren. And yes I have known for the last few books that the stories have been getting a little duller. But no matter I pushed on.
The only positive thing I can say here is Jasmine Blackborow was the only saving grace of this book. I was so worried that it would be drastically different from Four Funerals and Maybe a Wedding. Because I do love continuation. So thank you Jasmine! Thank you for giving a great performance.
As for the story. Rhys is continuously focused on repetition. Something I have complained about in previous books. But we seem to be taking this to new highs here. Really I think it's time to get an editor who will fix this.
The story itself seems to be dirtier than usual. I don't know maybe I am getting cranky in my old age. Whilst we had a few dirty scenes in previous books there has always been more of an implication into how naughty everyone is.
Really I would have preferred Queenie in this book to lift the mood a little. I know she isn't a favorite of many others but she just brings the tone back to earth.
I felt that I was unable to connect to any of the new characters in the book. Whereas in previous books I felt that they were more established. Even if they were one-off characters.
I loved the setting just not the story. So much lost potential.
I hold my breath for the next book hoping its more to form. Else maybe, and this is sad for me to write, we should close off the story altogether.

Disappointed; sad
I have immensely enjoyed every prior book in this wonderful cozy historical novel series. Love and Death Among the Cheetahs is just pretty good which is very disappointing. Jasmine Blackborow does a nice job of narration. This is the second novel in Her Royal Spyness series she has narrated since the death of Katherine Kellgren. Kellgren was simply the very best audio book narrator ever, so it would be foolish to expect her replacement to be nearly as outstanding as her.
I shall continue to listen to Ms. Bowen's novels in this series as well as her equally outstanding Molly Murphy historical mystery series, but I'm very disappointed with Love and Death Among the Cheetahs.

Very disappointing
I have loved the whole Royal Spyness series until now. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities so who cared who killed who? The regulars (Queenie, Belinda, etc). are absent. It seemed like the author got bored herself, so the murderer confessed for no reason, The End.

A better, but still flawed, second narration
The story meets Royal Spyness standards generally. The narration, however, leaves much to be desired. Accents are ridiculously overdone. Georgiana has been given a whining tone not present in Katherine Kellgren’s narrations. This gives the main character a much less endearing personality and detracts from the desire to follow her adventures further. Hopefully, this can be addressed for future productions.

Okay but the new narrator is all wrong
I have read all of Her Royal Spyness books and have now listened to them as well. This last book wasn't my favorite, probably because of the entitled, bed-hopping characters, but it was okay. The narration on this book and the last, however, is awful. I knew Katherine Kelgren would be hard to replace but there are lots of other great narrators. The plucky Georgie sounds alternately whiny and snooty, and Darcy sound breathy and wimpy. Jasmine Blackborow doesn't seem to understand the characters. I will just read the ebooks from now on unless another narrator reads them.

Good Story, Rough Narration
Rhys is a brilliant author, who infuses history in the midst of romance and intrigue. I love the way you can tell she has done her research on the topics of her stories. She is just insanely good at what she does. I was less impressed with the narrator. Honestly, I tried my best to be objective listening to this and the last book, knowing it was not the beloved Katherine Kellgren; however, I genuinely think my dislike for the narration would be the same, whether or not I had ever heard the previous books. Georgie just comes across nasally and whiny in this book. It’s less like she is an independent, strong woman and more like a spoiled girl on a jaunt to Africa. It’s hard to convey all of that with tone, but that gives me a new appreciation for the importance of a good story teller. Also, the narrator talks PAINFULLY slow at times. I listened, of course, because Rhys is amazing, but it was tough to stop thinking of how much I dislike the vocals. I also think the next book should include more Belinda. I missed her wit. :)

Love the book, but not the reader
I love the 'Her Royal Spyness' series, and I enjoyed spending time with Georgie and Darcy again. I hope there will be many more. Unfortunately, I am not enjoying Jasmine Blackborow's interpretation of it. I understand she has some giant shoes to fill after Kathryn Kellgren's passing, whose interpretation was so spot on perfect that it truly gave the characters wonderful dimension. I was all for giving Ms. Blackborow a chance, but, in my opinion, she's nowhere near as polished a voice actress as Kathryn K. was. Just about all of her male characters sound either lazy, lascivious, drunk or stupid and Darcy sounds half asleep most of the time. And as another reviewer very aptly put it, Georgie often sounds like a cross between Queenie and Fig, especially when upset. I will, of course, continue to listen to any further books in the series, even with this reader, because I love it, but I do miss Kathryn Kellgren.

Narration
The general narration of this book was ok but when it came to reading different characters they were so false. Americans all spoke with a lazy drawl, upper class Brits sounded like Maggie Smith although they were only in 30's or 40's. I really wish I could get a refund on this book.

Least favorite
My least favorite in the series. The twist of marriage is fine, but I missed the quirky maid and the normal Georgie...and well I am a huge fan and just didn’t care for this book.

Not up to previous books
Georgie and Darcy are on their honeymoon. Story is much less interesting than usual; Georgie seems much more whiny and unsure of herself; Darcy comes off as sleasy (I'm not sure why I had that impression); lots of new characters, but none I cared about.
Only one quick appearance by a singke cheetah, by the way.
