Publisher's Summary

A New York Times best-selling marriage book making a difference! More than one million copies sold!

Based on over three decades of counseling, as well as scientific and biblical research, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs and his wife, Sarah, have already taken the Love & Respect message across America and are changing the way couples talk to, think about, and treat each other. What do you want for your marriage? Want some peace? Want to feel close? Want to feel valued? Want to experience marriage the way God intended? Then why not try some Love and Respect.

A wife has one driving need--to feel loved. When that need is met, she is happy. A husband has one driving need--to feel respected. When that need is met, he is happy. When either of these needs isn’t met, things get crazy. Love & Respect reveals why spouses react negatively to each other, and how they can deal with such conflict quickly, easily, and biblically.

Easy to understand, relatable & Biblically backed

I have listened to the book from start to finish several times and enjoy it every time. I love that it is easy to understand, very relatable and can actually take steps to apply what you have read, right away. I like that it is biblically backed and feel the biblical aspects is explained well.

The best book I have ever read regarding marriage!

I wish I’d read Dr Eggerichs book years ago!
It would’ve saved us much pain and many arguments! Read this book before going on any fancy expensive marriage course. The I information and advise is so simple and biblical. Instead of talking about the much overused word “submission” he talks about the simple truth of respecting and loving. Something that makes complete sense, is easy to do when explained so well and ultimately marriage transforming. Thank you so very much Dr Eggerichs for transforming our marriage!

A contesting for a healthy marriage

The simplicity of this book will leave you dumbfounded as to why this BASIC truth is not being taught from every pulpit in the country. I will continue to reread this book and pass it down to my children when they come of age

This book is a marriage saver!

We are not strictly Christian, but the overall message still worked miracles for us. Don't let the religious nature of the book turn you off if you are not a follower. If you are really ready to do anything to save your marriage, read this book.

Helpful. Glad I bought it. Some reservations.

Overall I'm glad I bought this book. My wife and I have a great marriage and almost never fight or get into tiffs, so I was reluctant to buy because most marriage books are slanted toward those considering divorce.

Overall I felt this was true from a male perspective and it was very refreshing to read a marriage book that didn't make all guys out to be horrible sinning savage beasts.

However, there were two things I think could be improved.

First, I think it maybe went a bit too far in the way it explained how the woman should respect the man's decisions for the family. My wife felt afraid to even voice her opinion anymore until I told her to just stop being so respectful and be herself like she usually is. She is always very good to me so I think this book made her feel like she wasn't doing a good job and needed to change something.

Second, I wish there were far more specific ideas of things I could do to show love for my wife. I get the concept and I tell my wife I love her all the time. Just wish there were lots of creative ideas in this book to get me thinking.

The best relashionship book ever!!

I have always thought about what Paul wrote about love &I respect, but never realm understood why my husband so needs my respect. While I felt misunderstood and unloved. I've read and shared with my husband. I am respecting him and seeing how he is respected and respectful. Thanks.

Invaluable Tools - Heaavy on Religion

What did you like best about this story?

Everything that people are saying about the book is true. Love Emerson's voice, love the advice, can't wait to put it into use. In fact I have started following the advice and already see some change. Now I just need my boyfriend to read the book and hopefully see some major improvements in our relationship.

Any additional comments?

I am not a religious person, in fact I do not believe in God. When the book first started, I rolled my eyes every time he mentioned the Bible (he quotes scripture throughout). I guess I did not realize he is a pastor. I had to reframe my thinking to get through the book, so when he mentioned the Bible I thought, "The book of morals, the book of morals!" Because that's what the Bible is, essentially, a guide to the right (righteous)/moral way to live. If you are also non-religious, I suggest skipping the last hour (Audible chapters 28-30, book chapter 23). These chapters are simply telling you, the listener, to follow his guide because the Lord commands you based on his interpretation of the Bible. This does not help me.

Otherwise, the book was great. If you are an ultra FEMINIST, you must listen with a very open mind and take from it what you'd like. I am a feminist myself, but do believe that men and woman are built differently and have very different needs. This book definitely opened my eyes to how a man thinks. He described how I think and how my boyfriend thinks to a T. Religious, feminist, or not, I think everyone should hear his message.

Life changing potential for sure.

Where does Love and Respect rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Since it has helped my wife and I in the beginning of our marriage make it past a very difficult time I'd have to rate it number 2. Only second to the Bible that the principles the content is based on is number one I'll have to say.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Love and Respect?

When he speaks of the "Crazy cycle" that's spot on. Using a Biblical solution is the key to my trusting what he said in the first place.

What does Emerson Eggerichs bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's expressive in his voice and intonations.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The books name is good enough.

Any additional comments?

I've spoke to quite a few men with long term marriages since reading this book. The principle of "Love and Respect" is invariably at play in each of them in some form or another.

Lightbulb moment here folks!

Biblical truth spoken here, with the eye-opening revelation of why it's so hard for the love & respect relationship to simply "happen". Anything good takes time and energy -- but is worth it all. This book is must-read for any relationship!

Probably Single but inspired!!

I am not married. Not even sure if I still have a girlfriend LOL. The beginning of this book made me mad as it list the different arguments between couples. Yet I find myself inspired by this book. How differently my life would have been had I read it earlier. Wow... I might have been married by now. Maybe. At least it seems like I'd have a fighting chance with this book by my side. lol. Great read! Eye opening.
