Publisher's Summary
A New York Times best seller!
Optioned for film by the producers of Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I've Loved Before.
Most anticipated novel of 2020: Boston Globe, Book Riot, Bustle, Nerd Daily, Seventeen, She Reads.
Praised as “an intense rush of rebellion and romance” by number one New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Garber, this romantic and layered debut from Abigail Hing Wen is “a roller-coaster ride of romance and self-discovery.” (Kirkus)
“Our cousins have done this program,” Sophie whispers. “Best kept secret. Zero supervision.”
And just like that, Ever Wong’s summer takes an unexpected turn. Gone is Chien Tan, the strict educational program in Taiwan that Ever was expecting. In its place, she finds Loveboat: a summer-long free-for-all where hookups abound, adults turn a blind eye, snake-blood sake flows abundantly, and the nightlife runs nonstop.
But not every student is quite what they seem:
Ever is working toward becoming a doctor but nurses a secret passion for dance.
Rick Woo is the Yale-bound child prodigy bane of Ever’s existence whose perfection hides a secret.
Boy-crazy, fashion-obsessed Sophie Ha turns out to have more to her than meets the eye.
And under sexy Xavier Yeh’s shell is buried a shameful truth he’ll never admit.
When these students’ lives collide, it’s guaranteed to be a summer Ever will never forget.
“A unique story from an exciting and authentic new voice.” (Sabaa Tahir, number one New York Times best-selling author of An Ember in the Ashes)
“Equal parts surprising, original, and intelligent. An intense rush of rebellion and romance.” (Stephanie Garber, number one New York Times best-selling author of Caraval)
“Fresh as a first kiss.” (Stacey Lee, award-winning author of Outrun the Moon)
"Fresh, fun, heartfelt, and totally addictive, a story about finding your place - and your people - where you least expected." (Kelly Loy Gilbert, author of the William C. Morris Award finalist Conviction)

Not bad juvenile fiction
Not bad...just wish I had realized that juvenile fiction was the genre before I purchased. However, it’s a good story with a great message about racism and struggles involved in growing up as an Asian American. I appreciated the perspective. For a juvenile fiction novel it was “almost” clean enough for me to recommend to my librarian friends and friends with teens. Had the author omitted the sex scene toward the end it would have garnered my recommendation. Overall, well done Ms Wen.

Such a cute read!
short & sweet Ruthi Reads Review!
book - “Loveboat, Taipei” by Abigail Hing Wen
rating - 5/5 stars
If anyone finds themselves in the mood for a very cute contemporary romance novel, Loveboat Taipei is really perfect! It’s so charming, cute and most importantly, it’s extremely realistic while still being a wonderful escape. It discusses racism, privilege, sexism & more while still being pure fun, cute with swoon worthy scenes! I would categorize more in the recently graduated high school section of YA & it was a very satisfying romance for this 29 year old! Plus, it felt like traveling to Taipei which right now any book that actually captures how a vacation feels, is an absolute win!

That's some voice acting
Emily Woo Zeller is a stunning narrator and really brought life to the protagonist as well as all the other characters. I was initially taken aback when I realized it was all her. I'm Asian American, but I'm half white; I never grew up with the same crazy parental expectations on my shoulders that many Asian Americans have grown up with. It's good to see into another perspective, especially through the eyes of such a relatable protagonist. The story is a little coming-of-age cheesy, but overall it's very compelling.

Wonderful book, that kept me up all night wanting more!
I loved how real each character was. How you fell in and out of love with them based on real life actions. I was captivated throughout the story. I empathized with Ever, and so many other characters. So many deep conversations and situations were brought up. And even though I am not of Asian heritage, I could relate to so much in this book! I loved it.

Loved it!
A sneak peak into another culture and developing deeper respect. Inspiring as it urges the notion to stay on your path no matter what obstacles are shoved in your face. Stay strong, resilient and passionate. It was such a great story, I didn't want it to end.

Wow! Beautifully Layered
Full of culture and rife with teen angst. Beautiful story of Asian heritage and coming of age from a tightly knit Asian background. Unexpectedly beautiful and wonderfully crafted. I would have liked to know what happened to the main couple at the end though! Will there be a second book?! I would read it ♥️

Fantastic
The book itself is just wonderful, but I must mention the actress. She voiced so many different characters all with unique distinct sounds. I am so impressed and can’t recommend this enough.
