Publisher's Summary

A young couple buys a beautiful house by a picturesque lake in the Catskills, looking to escape the bustle of the city to raise their newborn baby. It is a perfect place for a fresh start. Except that nothing is ever as perfect as it seems. As autumn nights close in around their home, they learn that darkness takes many forms. And sometimes that darkness is hungry.

New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry delivers an unsettling Audible Original that will give listeners the Halloween creeps all year round.

Maberry, whose works include the popular Joe Ledger thrillers (read by Ray Porter), the Rot & Ruin YA zombie apocalypse novels, and V-Wars (soon to be a Netflix series starring The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder), switches from visceral action to unnerving supernatural suspense.

Tragic...

I didn't dislike this. I only found it hard to enjoy it because I have a little one... to me, it was sad.

Scott Brick Rivals Vincent Price

The story was compelling, but the reader was fantastic. Scott Brick is the Vincent Price of the 21st Century. Now, I have to hunt down everything that he has read.

I guess there’s a reason it’s free

Honestly, reading these positive reviews, I have to wonder if they heard the same book. Predictable, formulaic. Blessedly short. You get the feeling this writer can write but didn’t want to waste his best material on a free short story. Overall exceedingly meh.

Also, let's just say his mother character acts in a way NO MOTHER would. You've twice been scared by something that happens to your newborn baby, resulting in baby spending an extended period in the hospital and you still take it back to a house where this stuff is going on? Ridiculous. Nothing new here, nothing inventive, nothing entertaining. It's literally astounding to me to see these positive comments about it.

Short and sweetly nerve wracking

Narration was on point and the story well done and sent shivers down my spine.

Soooooo scary!

This was so scary and sad. Every parents worst nightmare. Beware moving in to a haunted house! A good spooky story to be told on cold wintry nights by the fireplace!

Shocking (-ly uninteresting) Ending

The ending will have you screaming "WHAT?!" not because of a twist but because thatsit.

A decent short short story

It was decent to listen to for 37 minutes but nothing to rave about really. Scott Brick was a good narrator.

Quick and creepy

A haunted house, a happy couple and a newborn baby.
A perfect scenario for a horror story.

This happy pregnant couple is looking for its new house and come across an amazing house too good to be true, but the realtor says it's haunted, not as a warning but just because the law says he has to.
The first few days are fine, everything seems to be ok and the rumor about the ghost are just that: rumors.
Until the baby comes. Then everything changes.
