À propos de cet audio

Audie Award Finalist, Original Work, 2014

Audible’s Audie Award-winning and Hugo Award-nominated vision of the not-too-distant future returns!

As METAtropolis: Green Space moves into the 22nd Century, human social evolution is heading in new directions after the Green Crash and the subsequent Green Renaissance. Nearly everyone who cares to participate in the wired world has become part of the "Internet of things", a virtual environment mapped across all aspects of the natural experience. At the same time, the serious back-to-the-land types have embraced a full-on paleo lifestyle, including genetically engineering themselves and their offspring. At the same time, a back-to-space movement is seeking the moon, a green Mars, and even the stars, with the eventual goal of leaving a pristine and undisturbed Earth behind. METAtropolis: Green Space is the creation of Hugo and World Fantasy Award nominee Jay Lake; Hugo Award winning writers Seanan McGuire, Mary Robinette Kowal, and Elizabeth Bear; New York Times best-selling author Tobias S. Buckell; Aurora Award winner Karl Schroeder; and critically-acclaimed author Ken Scholes.

Two of the seven stories offered in this theme-based compendium are genuinely excellent. One is almost unbearably boring. Another is a great story spoiled by subpar narration.
This collection is almost exemplary for what you get from a collaborative project like this. 'METAtropolis: Green Space' tackles the concept of a future world colored by Climate Change/Disaster and a series of authors speculate on how individual citizens, high-tech businesses, and zealous climate activists/NGOs might react. The stories are definitely thought-provoking.. albeit frustratingly inconsistent in terms of quality.

The hit & miss reading performances underline the variety offered, too. To be certain, Audible Studios Inc. producers provide excellent sound quality (this is a great listening experience), but there are a couple of recordings that I actually thought about skipping.

Altogether, this recording merits 6 stars out of 10. It was a reasonable distraction as a 'Plus' catalog entry, but you should spend your Credit elsewhere if they ask for one.

[Note: I am happy to have discovered new-to-me author Seanan McGuire. I will be looking for more from him]

This was a real drag tracking down the author, title and performer between opening chapters and who is matched with the information in the overview text. Anthologies should come with a TABLE OF CONTENTS PDF - with a list of the stories included , authors and narrators, instead of trying to find by scanning each chapter. If I wan to read Ken Scholes it would be nice to see his story starts at Chapter 66 !
example:
Chapter 11, Green and Dying by Elizabeth Bear, narrated by Johnathan Davis
Chapter 54, Tensegratie (?) by Tobias S. Buckle performed by Scott Brick
OR place that TOC in the Publisher Summary
